EV220B 100: the DN 100 flanged valve with 130 m3/h flow

The 016D6100 is the largest EV220B in this lane: DN 100 (4 in), a cast-iron body to EN 1092-1 and a Kv of 130 m3/h (Cv 150). It is a normally closed, piston-operated, 2/2-way valve and is meant for the main lines of water systems, such as a process water header, a washing line or the water supply for a cooling system.

At 33.25 kg, it is the heaviest of the EV220B family here. The working pressure is 10 bar, the test pressure 15 bar, and the minimum differential 0.25 bar. The seals are EPDM and the medium range is -25 to 90 C.

Slow closing and what it means

Danfoss estimates the closing time on water at 29 seconds and the opening time at 5 seconds. The long closing time is a feature on a line of this size because it limits pressure surges, but it also means that plant logic must not rely on this valve for a fast cut-off. For emergency isolation use a motorised or pneumatic valve.

The installation guide lists a required straight pipe on each side and a minimum inside tube diameter equal to the 100 mm orifice. It also specifies water hardness of 6 to 18 dH, conductivity of 50 to 800 uS/cm and a 50 mesh filter.

Ordering and handling

The coil (BB, BE, BG or BY types in the guide), the plug and the flange set are separate. Two people or a hoist are needed to lift the body. Confirm the flange standard, the pressure class and whether you need the alternative equalising orifice for lines exposed to water hammer.

Because the body is large, order the matching gaskets, bolts and counter flanges at the same time, so that the installation team has everything on site. Plan a bypass or a manual isolation valve upstream, as removal of this valve for service otherwise requires draining the main line, which on a cooling system can interrupt production for several hours.

Record the actual closing time at commissioning and compare it against the estimate in this page. A longer time usually points to a partly blocked equalising orifice, while a shorter one may indicate a changed orifice or air in the line. Either deviation is worth investigating before the next maintenance interval.
