Description
A 24 V DC clip-on coil for Danfoss EV solenoid valves
018F6857 is the Danfoss BG024DS solenoid coil: 24 V DC, 20 W, clip-on with a terminal box. It belongs to the BG range of high-performance coils in the Danfoss coil data sheet and is the DC option for valves such as the EV210B, EV220B, EV222B and EV224B. The Danfoss store lists it as a multi pack of 24 pieces with a coil enclosure rating of IP67, so check the quantity when ordering a single replacement.

Choosing the right BG coil
The data sheet lists the BG range in several voltages: BG024AS (24 V, 50 Hz) 018F6807, BG110AS 018F6811, BG230AS 018F6801, BG240AS 018F6802, BG400AS 018F6803, BG024BS (24 V, 60 Hz) 018F6815, BG012DS (12 V DC) 018F6856 and this BG024DS (24 V DC) 018F6857. The DC coils draw 20 W and have a narrower ambient range of -40 to 50 C than the AC versions, which reach 80 C. Match the coil to the control voltage and to the valve family, and do not fit a 24 V coil to a 230 V circuit: a wrongly rated coil burns out quickly.
The Danfoss coil program covers both an easy-to-handle clip-on system and traditional coils with a threaded fastener. The BG coils are described as high performance coils with a terminal box connection. Other coil families in the same data sheet include BA, BD, BB, BE, BF, BH, BN, BJ, BX, BY and BQ types, and AM, AZ, AS and AP compact coils, each with their own code numbers, so never assume that coils with the same voltage are interchangeable across families.
Fitting and use
The BG coil has a clip-on fastening, so it is pushed onto the armature tube of the valve without tools; the terminal box takes the supply cable through a Pg 13.5 screwed entry. Keep the supply tolerance within plus or minus 10 percent and use a DC supply with adequate current for 20 W per coil, which is about 0.83 A at 24 V. A coil must never be energised off the valve because it will overheat.
Key features of the BG024DS coil
- 24 V DC operation, matching the control voltage of most PLC output cards, safety relays and building management controllers.
- Clip-on fastening that allows the coil to be changed without removing the valve from the pipework or draining the system.
- Terminal box with screwed cable entry, giving a robust connection for permanently wired installations.
- IP67 enclosure rating for wet and dusty locations.
- Class H insulation and continuous duty rating, so the coil can stay energised for long periods on normally closed valves held open.
Why a DC coil?
DC coils draw a steady current with no inrush, which makes them easy to supply from a standard 24 V DC power supply and to switch with transistor or relay outputs. They also avoid the hum that AC coils can produce. The trade-off is a higher continuous power than some AC coils and the narrower ambient range shown above. When several coils are energised together, add up the currents, at about 0.83 A per coil, when sizing the power supply and the output cards, and check voltage drop on long cable runs so the coil still sees at least the lower tolerance limit.
Replacement and installation procedure
- Isolate the electrical supply and confirm that the coil is de-energised.
- Disconnect the cable from the terminal box and remove the old coil by releasing the clip.
- Inspect the armature tube for damage or corrosion; a damaged tube must be replaced as part of the valve, not the coil.
- Push the new BG024DS onto the armature tube until the clip engages.
- Connect the supply and earth through the Pg 13.5 entry and tighten the gland to keep the IP67 rating.
- Energise and confirm that the valve opens and closes correctly.
Fit a suppression diode or the protective circuit recommended by the control equipment manufacturer across DC coils switched by relays or transistors, to limit the voltage spike when the coil is switched off.
Applications in Oman and GCC facilities
EV-series valves fitted with 24 V DC coils are used on water treatment skids, irrigation control panels, HVAC chilled-water and condensate lines, compressed air drains, and on process and utility lines in industrial plants. In the Gulf climate, outdoor valves can be exposed to direct sun and high surface temperatures. Because the DC coil’s ambient rating is lower than that of the AC versions, shade the valve or install it in a ventilated cabinet where summer temperatures would otherwise exceed the limit, or consider an AC coil if the control system allows.

About brand
From its headquarters in Nordborg, Denmark, where it was founded in 1933, Danfoss makes the drives, valves and sensors found in pump rooms, chiller plants and cold stores. Its blue VLT frequency converters are probably the most familiar of them.
Seven Star LLC lists Danfoss VLT drives, pressure transmitters, refrigeration valves and HVAC control valves, and supplies them to contractors and plant owners in Oman against the exact code number on the label.
Danfoss product families on this page
Among the VLT drives listed, three are each aimed at a different duty: the VLT HVAC Drive FC 102 for fans and building services, the VLT AQUA Drive FC 202 for water and wastewater pumping, and the VLT AutomationDrive FC 302 for general industrial machinery. The LCP 12 control panel with potentiometer (code number 132B0101) is also listed; Danfoss specifies it for the VLT Micro Drive FC 51. In pressure measurement there are the MBS 3000 general purpose transmitter and the MBS 5100. Valves include the AB-QM pressure independent control valve in DN 15 to DN 250, the EVR 25 servo-operated solenoid valve and the ICV pilot-operated valve for industrial refrigeration.
Where Danfoss equipment is used
District cooling and chilled water plants, air handling units, booster and irrigation pump stations, desalination and wastewater works, ammonia and CO2 refrigeration plants, food storage and marine engine rooms are the usual places. Demand in the GCC is driven largely by cooling and water.
Ordering Danfoss parts: what we need
Every Danfoss product has a code number, and drives also carry a long type code string on the label. Send both. For a drive we need the motor power and current, the mains voltage, enclosure rating, any fieldbus or option card and the filter class. For an MBS transmitter give the pressure span, output signal, pressure connection and electrical connection. For valves give the size, connection type, coil voltage where relevant and the refrigerant or medium.
