Sensors for air, cold-room and pipe temperatures

An AKS 11 is the kind of sensor used on display cabinets, cold rooms, air coolers, defrost termination and pipe temperature measurement when it is clamped to a tube. The Pt 1000 element has a resistance change of about 3.9 ohm per kelvin, so it gives a clean signal over long cables on controllers made for Pt 1000 inputs.

The sensor is not interchangeable with Pt 100, NTC or PTC sensors; the controller must be set for Pt 1000 and the input type has to match. A tolerance of class B in EN 60751 is normal for refrigeration control, and it is not a calibration reference.

Installation and ordering notes

Fix the sensor with a clip or tape to the pipe or in a suitable position in the air stream, and keep the cable away from mains wires. Seal the cable entry if installed in a damp location. The PVC cable is suited for the stated range; for hotter locations other versions of the AKS 11 or AKS 12 have different cables.

Confirm the cable length, the element type and the controller input before ordering. The Danfoss data sheet for the AKS 11 and the instruction sheet describe the mounting positions and the resistance table.

Remember that the sensor is only as accurate as its mounting: a sensor lying loose in the air stream of a cabinet reads differently from one clipped to a pipe, and the controller offset should be set after commissioning against a reference thermometer.

Choosing Danfoss products

For solenoid valves, check the operating principle. A direct-operated valve such as EV210B opens even at 0 bar differential pressure. A servo-operated valve such as EV220B needs a minimum differential (typically about 0.3 bar) to open, while an assisted-lift valve such as EV250B works from 0 bar. Coils are ordered separately, so the voltage on the coil (for example 230 V AC or 24 V DC) must match the control circuit. For drives, the VLT family is split by application: FC 51 Micro Drive for small machines, FC 102 HVAC Drive for fans and pumps in buildings, FC 202 AQUA Drive for water, and FC 302 AutomationDrive for demanding industrial duty.
