Danfoss 060L110166 KP 61 Thermostat -30 to 15 C 5 m

Description

KP 61 thermostat for evaporator and cold-room control from -30 to 15 C

Danfoss 060L110166 is a KP 61 thermostat with a 5 m capillary tube. The sensor is a 2.5 x 500 mm coiled capillary that is simply placed in the air stream or fixed to the evaporator, and the vapour charge keeps the reaction fast. Setting range covers -30 to 15 C, which includes deep-freeze defrost termination, cold room and chilled-air control, so the code is one of the most universal thermostats in refrigeration plant.

The data sheet describes the KP thermostats as single-pole double-throw temperature-operated switches that can be connected directly to a single-phase AC motor of up to roughly 2 kW or used in the control circuit of DC motors and large AC motors. They are used for regulation but also appear in safety monitoring systems.

Setting the differential and placing the sensor

The differential changes with the setting on the scale: it is largest (5.5 to 23 K) at the bottom of the range and smallest (1.5 to 7 K) at the top. For a cold room kept at 2 C, set the scale near the upper range and use the differential spindle to avoid frequent compressor starts. When the thermostat is used to end defrost, place the sensor at the point on the coil that clears last.

The long 5 m capillary allows the control head to stay in a machine room while the sensor reaches into a cabinet. Excess capillary should be coiled loosely and not be laid across warm components; kinks and sharp bends damage the vapour charge system.

Electrical connection and ordering notes

Electrical connection is from the front, which makes rack mounting simple; the rubber cable gland accepts 6 to 14 mm cable. The standard version has a change-over contact, and the data sheet notes that opposite contact function or a signal contact can be obtained in other versions with other code numbers.

Confirm the sensor length, the range and reset function (this code is automatic) before ordering, as KP 61 is sold with 2 m and 5 m capillaries, manual-reset and gold-contact versions. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat and can quote 060L110166.

Selection considerations for a KP 61 thermostat

A thermostat for refrigeration has to fit three things: the temperature band of the process, the way the sensor meets that temperature, and the electrical load it switches. Check that the required cut-in and cut-out points both sit inside the setting range and that the needed differential is achievable at that point of the scale, remembering that the differential narrows towards the top of the range. Decide where the sensor will sit, in the air stream or on the evaporator, and whether the capillary length reaches comfortably without tight bends. Finally, compare the compressor, fan or contactor load with the stated contact ratings; for larger motors, let the thermostat switch the control circuit of a contactor rather than the motor current.

Installation and commissioning practice

Mount the control head on a vibration-free surface in a place where the scale can be read and adjusted, and where the head is not colder than the sensor, so that the charge behaves as intended. Fix the capillary with clips along its route, protect it where it passes through walls or panel openings, and keep it away from sharp edges and moving parts. Wire the change-over contact according to the required function, use the rubber cable gland with a cable of the correct diameter, and close the cover before power is applied.

At commissioning, set the range and differential, then run the plant through several cycles while comparing the switching points with a calibrated thermometer placed next to the sensor. Fine-tune the setting so that the room or product temperature stays where it is needed without short-cycling the compressor. Record the final settings on the drawing or a label inside the panel.

Operation and maintenance

In normal service the thermostat needs little attention. During planned maintenance, check that the sensor is still correctly fixed, that the capillary has not been crushed or rubbed through, and that terminals are tight. Compare the switching points with a reference thermometer from time to time, especially after work on the evaporator or air flow, since a moved sensor is a frequent cause of changed behaviour.

Refrigeration control in GCC conditions

Cold stores, food processing rooms and air-conditioning plant in Oman and the GCC run long hours under high outside temperature, and machine rooms can become hot and dusty. Because the enclosure is IP30, install the head inside a cleaner panel or a protected area rather than in open outdoor positions, and keep it within the stated ambient range. Avoid placing the sensor where door openings bring warm, humid air directly onto it unless that is the intended measuring point. When you request a quotation, give the code number, quantity, required range and capillary length, reset type and the load to be switched.

About brand

From its headquarters in Nordborg, Denmark, where it was founded in 1933, Danfoss makes the drives, valves and sensors found in pump rooms, chiller plants and cold stores. Its blue VLT frequency converters are probably the most familiar of them.

Seven Star LLC lists Danfoss VLT drives, pressure transmitters, refrigeration valves and HVAC control valves, and supplies them to contractors and plant owners in Oman against the exact code number on the label.

Danfoss product families on this page

Among the VLT drives listed, three are each aimed at a different duty: the VLT HVAC Drive FC 102 for fans and building services, the VLT AQUA Drive FC 202 for water and wastewater pumping, and the VLT AutomationDrive FC 302 for general industrial machinery. The LCP 12 control panel with potentiometer (code number 132B0101) is also listed; Danfoss specifies it for the VLT Micro Drive FC 51. In pressure measurement there are the MBS 3000 general purpose transmitter and the MBS 5100. Valves include the AB-QM pressure independent control valve in DN 15 to DN 250, the EVR 25 servo-operated solenoid valve and the ICV pilot-operated valve for industrial refrigeration.

Where Danfoss equipment is used

District cooling and chilled water plants, air handling units, booster and irrigation pump stations, desalination and wastewater works, ammonia and CO2 refrigeration plants, food storage and marine engine rooms are the usual places. Demand in the GCC is driven largely by cooling and water.

Ordering Danfoss parts: what we need

Every Danfoss product has a code number, and drives also carry a long type code string on the label. Send both. For a drive we need the motor power and current, the mains voltage, enclosure rating, any fieldbus or option card and the filter class. For an MBS transmitter give the pressure span, output signal, pressure connection and electrical connection. For valves give the size, connection type, coil voltage where relevant and the refrigerant or medium.
