Brand:

ABB CP-S.1 24/3.0 Power Supply 24 V DC 3 A 72 W

Description

CP-S.1 24/3.0: the small 72 W step of ABB’s CP-S.1 range

CP-S.1 24/3.0 is the smallest power supply of ABB’s CP-S.1 mid-high performance range. It delivers 24 V DC at 3 A (72 W) from a 100 to 240 V AC or 100 to 250 V DC input and is meant for small panels with a PLC, a few relays and sensors.

ABB highlights an integrated power reserve of up to 150 percent for five seconds, which gives a boost current of 4.5 A. This helps with the start of capacitive loads or small motors without choosing a larger supply.

Power reserve, efficiency and a difference from the larger models

The data sheet gives efficiency of more than 89 percent at rated load, with loss below 10 W at full load and below 2.8 W with no load. Unlike the CP-S.1 24/10.0 and 24/20.0, this smaller unit has no power factor correction, and its input current is 0.95 A at 230 V AC.

Rated output is available from -25 to +60 C, and the output current is derated by 2.5 percent per kelvin up to 70 C. Cold-start inrush is limited to 11 A, and the hold-up time is more than 20 ms at 230 V AC.

Signalling, protection and connection

A relay contact 13-14 closes when the output is above 92 percent of the set voltage and opens below 90 percent, so a PLC can monitor the supply. The contact is rated 30 V AC at 0.5 A or 24 V DC at 1 A. The green OUTPUT OK LED flashes below 90 percent.

The supply is open-circuit, overload and short-circuit proof, with overtemperature shutdown and an output overvoltage limit below 35 V. As backup protection, ABB recommends a one-pole S200 miniature circuit breaker with characteristic B or C and a maximum rating of 16 A.

About brand

ABB is the Swiss-Swedish engineering group for electrification and automation: low voltage drives, motors, circuit breakers and motor control, process instruments and analysers, control systems and robots. It was formed on 5 January 1988 by the merger of two older companies. ASEA was founded in Västerås, Sweden, in 1883 by Ludvig Fredholm to make electric lighting and generators. BBC Brown Boveri was founded in Baden near Zurich in 1891 by Charles E. L. Brown and Walter Boveri. ABB Ltd is incorporated in Switzerland, headquartered in Zurich and listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange and Nasdaq Stockholm.

Choosing an ABB drive

ABB's ACS drive codes are easy to read once you know the pattern. In ACS580-01-046A-4, "ACS580" is the drive family, "01" means a wall-mounted single drive, "046A" is the rated output current (about 46 A) and "-4" means a 380–480 V supply. The family is chosen by application: ACS355 for compact machinery, ACS310 for simple pumps and fans, ACS580 as the general-purpose drive, ACQ580 for water and wastewater with pump functions such as pipe fill and dry-run protection, and ACS880 for heavy industrial duty with direct torque control. Size the drive on the motor's full-load current, not only its kW rating, and allow derating for the high ambient temperatures common in Gulf electrical rooms.

Where ABB products are used

In Oman and the GCC, ABB drives and motors run pumps, fans and compressors in water and wastewater plants, district cooling, oil and gas and industry. ABB flowmeters, level instruments and analysers are used in water utilities, power and desalination plants and refineries, and SACE breakers protect switchboards in buildings and plants.
