Mean Well SPV-300-12 Enclosed Power Supply

Description

A fan-cooled 300 W supply with a programmable output

The Mean Well SPV-300-12 is a 300 W enclosed switching power supply with a 12 V DC output at 25 A and active power factor correction. The SPV-300 series is cooled by a built-in DC fan, and Mean Well lists a remote ON/OFF input, a fan speed control, and an output voltage that can be programmed from 20% to 110% of nominal with a 1 to 5.5 VDC external control signal.

The input range is 88 to 264 VAC (124 to 370 VDC) and the PF is above 0.95 at 230 VAC. At 12 V the typical efficiency is 83.5%; the working temperature is -20 to +65 C. The switching frequency is fixed at 100 kHz. Overload is handled by constant current limiting with automatic recovery.

Programmable output and remote control

The 1 to 5.5 VDC control input lets a controller set the output between roughly 2.4 V and 13.2 V on the 12 V model, which turns the supply into a simple programmable source for test fixtures, charging stations and process equipment. The remote ON/OFF input accepts a 4 to 10 VDC signal for power off and 0 to 0.8 VDC for power on, so a PLC can shut the supply down without switching the mains.

Cooling, mounting and sizing

The fan is part of the thermal design, so keep the intake and exhaust openings clear and use the derating curve when ambient air is warm. At 25 A the output wiring needs suitable cross-section and the terminal block must be tightened to specification. Typical 12 V loads include communication racks, test fixtures and instrumentation, but verify the load current including start-up peaks. The datasheet efficiency is lower than the DIN rail families, so allow for the waste heat inside the cabinet. Clean or inspect the fan openings at every maintenance round, because dust build-up reduces air flow and raises the internal temperature.

How the SPV-300-12 works

The SPV-300-12 block diagram shows an EMI filter and rectifiers, an active PFC stage, a PWM power switching stage fixed at 100 kHz, and output rectifiers and filter for the isolated 12 V rail. The control loop regulates the output and the protection circuits cover short circuit, overload, over-voltage and over-temperature. A built-in fan cools the enclosed unit.

Selection & Ordering Guide

The SPV-300 series offers:

  • SPV-300-12: 12 V DC, 25 A
  • SPV-300-24: 24 V DC, 12.5 A
  • SPV-300-48: 48 V DC, 6.25 A

Choose the SPV-300-12 for 12 V loads up to 300 W that need active PFC in an enclosed format.

Installation & Maintenance

  • Isolate and lock out the supply circuit before wiring; installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician.
  • Use the conductor sizes, terminal data and protective earth connection shown in the official datasheet.
  • Respect the mounting orientation and clearances given by Mean Well so that the cooling of the SPV-300-12 works as designed.
  • After commissioning, measure the output voltage at the load and trim it only within the documented adjustment range.
  • During planned maintenance, check terminals for tightness and discolouration, remove dust, and confirm that the cabinet temperature stays inside the derating curve.

Typical Applications in Oman & the GCC

In Oman and the GCC the SPV-300-12 is used in industrial equipment, LED displays, telecom cabinets, security systems and test benches that need a 12 V rail with high current.

Why Source from Seven Star LLC

Seven Star LLC supplies Mean Well products, including the SPV-300-12, to panel builders, contractors and maintenance teams across Oman and the GCC. Send us the model code and quantity to request a quote, and our team can help confirm the correct ordering code, the right variant and any accessories for your project. When you are replacing an existing unit, share the nameplate data and we will compare it with the official SPV-300 documentation before you order.

Wiring and commissioning notes for the SPV-300-12

Before energising the SPV-300-12, confirm that the input wiring matches the terminal markings and that the protective earth is connected. Size the output cables for the full 25 A load plus a margin, and keep cable runs to the loads short to limit voltage drop on the 12 V rail. After start-up, measure the output voltage at the load terminals and trim it with the adjustment potentiometer if the cable drop requires it. Check the actual enclosure temperature at full load against the derating curve in the datasheet, which is important in hot plant rooms and outdoor cabinets in Oman and the GCC.

About brand

Mean Well is a Taiwanese manufacturer of standard power supplies, founded in 1982 and headquartered in New Taipei City. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists Mean Well DIN rail, enclosed and DC-DC power supplies for control panels, automation equipment and electronics.

Mean Well power supply families

The catalogue covers DIN rail power supplies from 15 W to several hundred watts in single-phase and three-phase versions, enclosed chassis supplies with fan or convection cooling, medical-standard supplies, DIN rail DC-DC converters and many other formats. Each series has a datasheet that lists all output voltages, derating curves and approvals. The standard catalogue format suits machine builders, panel builders and maintenance teams that need a documented, replaceable supply rather than a custom design.
