Honeywell ppbRAE 3000+ Portable PID VOC Monitor
Description
Honeywell ppbRAE 3000+ portable VOC monitor: a parts-per-billion PID for hazardous areas
The ppbRAE 3000+ is a handheld photoionisation detector (PID) from the Honeywell RAE Systems range. It measures total volatile organic compounds from 1 ppb up to 10,000 ppm in a single instrument, which is why it is often chosen where one monitor must cover both trace-level screening and high-concentration leak or spill work. The datasheet describes it as a third-generation, patented PID with a 9.8 eV or 10.6 eV UV discharge lamp, a built-in datalogger and a built-in wireless modem. Seven Star LLC supplies the ppbRAE 3000+ in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.
In day-to-day use the operator draws air through a flexible probe with the internal pump, reads total VOC concentration on a four-line graphic display, and sees STEL, TWA and PEAK values when exposure assessment is needed.

How the ppbRAE 3000+ detects VOCs
A UV lamp ionises organic molecules whose ionisation energy is lower than the photon energy of the lamp, and the resulting ion current is amplified into a reading. The datasheet states the monitor uses Reflex PID technology, humidity compensation through built-in humidity and temperature sensors, and patented sensor and lamp auto-cleaning to reduce maintenance. Because PID responds to many compounds with different sensitivity, the reading is expressed in isobutylene equivalent unless a correction factor for a specific compound is selected from the built-in library of 220 compounds. A PID does not identify a compound; it responds to the total of what the lamp can ionise.
Selecting the lamp, battery and wireless module for the ppbRAE 3000+
- Lamp. The standard 10.6 eV lamp covers the broadest range of common solvents and fuel vapours. The optional 9.8 eV lamp narrows the response and can reduce interference from compounds with ionisation energies between 9.8 and 10.6 eV.
- Battery. The rechargeable Li-ion pack gives about 16 hours of operation; the alkaline adapter gives about 12 hours and is useful on remote jobs without charging.
- Wireless. The radio module supports Bluetooth, RM900 sub-1 GHz or BLE. Real-time connectivity to a command centre up to two miles (3 km) away is described with the optional RAELink3 portable modem, and typical line-of-sight ranges are given as 660 ft (200 m) for EchoView Host and 330 ft (100 m) for ProRAE Guardian with RAELink3 mesh.
- Kit. Choose the monitor-only package or the accessories kit with a hard case, charging cradle, filters and tubing, and optionally a calibration kit with 10 ppm isobutylene gas.
Calibration, bump testing and maintenance of the ppbRAE 3000+
Zero the instrument in clean air, using the organic vapour zeroing kit supplied with the monitor if the ambient air is suspect, then calibrate span with isobutylene in a Tedlar bag or from a cylinder with regulator. The instrument stores eight calibration gases, so one monitor can be used with several response factors. Replace the external filter and porous metal filters when they become dirty, clean the lamp and sensor with the supplied kit, and change the lamp at the intervals recommended by the manufacturer. The datasheet advertises tool-free access to the battery, lamp and sensor in seconds. The instrument is also compatible with the AutoRAE 2 and other RAE docking stations for bump testing and calibration records.
Where the ppbRAE 3000+ sits in the RAE portable range
Within the Honeywell portable PID range the ppbRAE 3000+ is the high-sensitivity VOC monitor. The MiniRAE 3000 and MiniRAE Lite+ are the other handheld VOC monitors, the UltraRAE 3000+ is the compound-specific model for benzene and butadiene. For mixed-gas work with LEL, oxygen and toxic sensors alongside a PID, the MultiRAE or GasAlertMicro 5 PID families apply. The ModRAE platform covers modular cartridge-based detection.
Typical ppbRAE 3000+ applications in Oman and the GCC
The datasheet lists oil and gas, HazMat, industrial safety, civil defence, and environmental and indoor air quality as application areas. In Gulf terms the monitor is used for leak surveys on flanges, valves and pump seals, confined-space pre-entry screening on tanks and vessels, fugitive emission checks around storage and loading areas, soil gas and groundwater remediation work, and industrial hygiene surveys around chemical handling. The IP-67 housing and rubber boot cope with dust, wash-down and the rough handling of turnaround work, and the 3-second response makes walk-through surveys practical in hot weather where operators need to move quickly.
Information to send with a ppbRAE 3000+ RFQ
- Target compounds and the concentration range of interest, so the lamp (9.8 eV or 10.6 eV) can be confirmed.
- Whether wireless connectivity is required and which module (Bluetooth, RM900, BLE).
- Monitor-only, accessories kit or calibration kit, and calibration gas supply arrangements.
- Required hazardous-area marking and quantity.
- Your preferred power option (Li-ion or alkaline adapter) and accessories such as a spare battery or charging cradle.

About brand
Honeywell is the American industrial technology group whose products on this site cover gas and flame detection, pressure transmitters, flow measurement, gas metering, fire alarm systems and helicopter rotor balancing equipment. Its roots go back to a thermostat business in Minneapolis in 1885 and to Mark Honeywell's heating company, which merged with it in 1927. Several brands we list have joined Honeywell over the years: Gent fire systems of Leicester (part of Honeywell since 2005), Chadwick-Helmuth (a Honeywell business unit from 2002) and Elster gas metering (acquired around the end of 2015).
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Honeywell gas detectors and sensors, transmitters, Elster gas meters and flow computers, Gent fire alarm equipment and Chadwick-Helmuth balancers, and supply them and their spares in Oman and the GCC by part number.

Gas detection uses two basic approaches. Point detectors such as the Sensepoint XCD measure the gas at one location, with a catalytic or infrared sensor for flammable gas and an electrochemical cell for toxic gas such as H2S. Open path detectors such as the Searchline Excel send an infrared beam across an area up to a few hundred metres long and detect a gas cloud anywhere along it. Infrared sensors cannot be poisoned the way catalytic beads can, which matters on sites with silicones or H2S.
Where Honeywell products are used
In Oman and the GCC, Honeywell gas detectors protect wellheads, gas plants, refineries and tank farms. Elster meters and flow computers measure gas at city gate stations and in industry. Gent systems are installed in commercial buildings, hospitals and hotels, and Chadwick-Helmuth balancers are used by helicopter operators.
Ordering Honeywell products: what we need
Send the part number from the label (for example 02104-N-XSSA or SPXCDASMTXF). For gas detectors, add the gas, range, output and certification. For gas meters, add size (DN), flow range and pressure rating. For Gent equipment, add the panel type and loop protocol.
Facts checked against Honeywell press releases and SEC filings, and published histories of Gent and Chadwick-Helmuth, October 2026.
