Honeywell BW Clip Maintenance-Free Single-Gas Detector

Description

Honeywell BW Clip maintenance-free single-gas detector

The Honeywell BW Clip is the simplest way to put a gas alarm on every worker. It is a small single-gas detector that you turn on once and then leave running for its full service life of up to three years. There is no calibration routine, no sensor or battery to replace and no charger to look after. Seven Star LLC supplies the BW Clip in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.

The BW Clip series covers the four gases most often requested in industry: hydrogen sulfide, carbon monoxide, oxygen and sulfur dioxide. Each unit has one electrochemical sensor and one job. It is therefore a good fit for large crews, visitors and contractors, where a controllable and cheap personal alarm is better than a complicated instrument that people forget to charge.

Two models are described by the manufacturer: the standard BW Clip, and the BW Clip Real Time, which adds a live gas reading and the ability to calibrate. This page covers the series, so state the model and gas when you request a quotation for the BW Clip.

How the BW Clip works in daily use

Because the sensor and battery are sealed into the detector for its whole life, the main user action is to switch it on at the start of use and clip it to a collar, pocket or harness close to the breathing zone. An automated internal test checks the battery, sensor and electronics, so an instrument with a fault does not quietly stay in service.

If the gas level crosses an alarm point, a wide-angle flash, a buzzer and a vibration alert operate together, which helps in noisy plant rooms and in protective clothing. The detector logs the 35 most recent gas events and bump test results, giving a supervisor a record when an incident needs to be reviewed.

BW Clip series: two-year and three-year versions and Real Time model

Model Operation Notes
Standard BW Clip Standard operation, no calibration Three-year version for H2S or CO; two-year versions for H2S, CO, O2, SO2
BW Clip Real Time Shows real-time gas level and allows calibration Same series; ask for the gas and version needed

The hibernation case is an accessory worth knowing about. On the two-year H2S or CO unit it lets you pause the service-life clock when the detector will not be used for a week or more, extending usable time by up to a year.

Docking, software and related Honeywell detectors

Both models are compatible with the IntelliDoX instrument management system. With it, a site can adjust alarm set points, track bump tests, show a non-compliance indicator and bump around fifty detectors in less than three minutes, and Honeywell Safety Suite supports device management.

Seven Star LLC also supplies the serviceable BW Solo single-gas detector, the BW Icon fixed-life multi-gas detector, the BW Max XT II pumped four-gas detector, the BW RigRAT area monitor and the ToxiRAE Pro. If you need a single-gas unit whose sensor can be replaced, look at the BW Solo; if you want a worry-free sealed unit with a fixed life, the BW Clip is the answer.

Selection checklist for the BW Clip

  • Choose the gas: H2S, CO, O2 or SO2, and check that the listed range meets your alarm needs.
  • Choose between standard operation and the Real Time version with display and calibration.
  • Decide between the three-year and two-year versions, and whether a hibernation case would help.
  • Confirm that the oxygen condition of the area is within the limit stated on the product page.
  • Check the listed Class I Div 1 standard against your site classification.
  • Plan bump testing, by hand or with IntelliDoX, because a fixed-life unit cannot be recalibrated in the standard model.

Bump testing and end-of-life handling for the BW Clip

A sealed detector still needs proof that it responds to gas. Run a bump test at the interval set by your safety procedure, using the right calibration gas for the sensor, and record the result. The unit keeps its own list of bump test results, which can be read back during an audit.

At the end of the rated life, remove the BW Clip from service and replace it, since the battery cannot be changed. Keep an issue register with the serial number, date of first use and wearer, so that the retirement date for each unit is known in advance and a replacement stock can be ordered ahead of time.

Where the BW Clip is used in Oman and the GCC

The BW Clip suits oil and gas sites where H2S is a standard personal hazard, power and desalination plants where CO or low oxygen can build up in enclosed spaces, and petrochemical and utility work where SO2 matters. It is common for visitors, short-term contractors and shutdown crews because it needs no training or charging, while the 50°C maximum temperature and 5% to 95% humidity range cover most regional conditions if the unit is not left in direct sun in a closed vehicle.

IP66/67 protection helps in sand and spray, but the sensor face must be kept clear of paint and heavy dust.

About brand

Honeywell is the American industrial technology group whose products on this site cover gas and flame detection, pressure transmitters, flow measurement, gas metering, fire alarm systems and helicopter rotor balancing equipment. Its roots go back to a thermostat business in Minneapolis in 1885 and to Mark Honeywell's heating company, which merged with it in 1927. Several brands we list have joined Honeywell over the years: Gent fire systems of Leicester (part of Honeywell since 2005), Chadwick-Helmuth (a Honeywell business unit from 2002) and Elster gas metering (acquired around the end of 2015).

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Honeywell gas detectors and sensors, transmitters, Elster gas meters and flow computers, Gent fire alarm equipment and Chadwick-Helmuth balancers, and supply them and their spares in Oman and the GCC by part number.

Gas detection uses two basic approaches. Point detectors such as the Sensepoint XCD measure the gas at one location, with a catalytic or infrared sensor for flammable gas and an electrochemical cell for toxic gas such as H2S. Open path detectors such as the Searchline Excel send an infrared beam across an area up to a few hundred metres long and detect a gas cloud anywhere along it. Infrared sensors cannot be poisoned the way catalytic beads can, which matters on sites with silicones or H2S.

Where Honeywell products are used

In Oman and the GCC, Honeywell gas detectors protect wellheads, gas plants, refineries and tank farms. Elster meters and flow computers measure gas at city gate stations and in industry. Gent systems are installed in commercial buildings, hospitals and hotels, and Chadwick-Helmuth balancers are used by helicopter operators.

Ordering Honeywell products: what we need

Send the part number from the label (for example 02104-N-XSSA or SPXCDASMTXF). For gas detectors, add the gas, range, output and certification. For gas meters, add size (DN), flow range and pressure rating. For Gent equipment, add the panel type and loop protocol.

Facts checked against Honeywell press releases and SEC filings, and published histories of Gent and Chadwick-Helmuth, October 2026.

FAQ

Questions about the Honeywell BW Clip Maintenance-Free Single-Gas

Answers from our engineering team on installation, compatibility and integration.

01How long does a BW Clip last?
The three-year version runs continuously for up to three years with no calibration, sensor replacement, battery replacement or charging. Two-year versions exist for H2S, CO, O2 and SO2, and the manufacturer lists a hibernation case that extends the life of the two-year H2S or CO unit.
02What is the difference between BW Clip and BW Clip Real Time?
The standard BW Clip provides standard operation and no calibration. The BW Clip Real Time adds a real-time gas level display and the ability to calibrate the device.
03Which gas ranges does the BW Clip cover?
The product page lists H2S 0 to 100 ppm, CO 0 to 300 ppm, O2 0 to 25% vol and SO2 0 to 100 ppm. Each detector has one electrochemical sensor for a single gas.
04Can the BW Clip be docked or tested automatically?
Yes. Both detectors are compatible with the IntelliDoX instrument management system for quick bump tests, test tracking and adjustable set points. Device management is also available through Honeywell Safety Suite.
05Is the BW Clip battery replaceable?
No. It uses a non-replaceable lithium battery that is built in for the life of the detector. When the service life ends the unit is retired, which is why the BW Clip needs no battery maintenance.
