AUMA GHT 360.2 Multi-Turn Gearbox

Description

Overview

AUMA GHT 360.2 is a single-ratio heavy multi-turn gearbox for multi-turn valves, delivering a maximum output torque of 80,000 Nm at a fixed 12:1 reduction. It was designed for large gate valves and globe valves that need far more torque than any direct-mounted actuator can supply, and AUMA documents it in its own data sheet alongside the GHT 320.3 to GHT 1200.3 series. A gearbox weight of 965 kg, an input shaft of 95 mm and a dog coupling output make it a distinctly industrial machine.

In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC supplies the AUMA GHT 360.2 to major infrastructure customers in the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC.

Operating Principle of the AUMA GHT 360.2

The AUMA GHT 360.2 uses a worm and worm wheel to reduce the output speed of a multi-turn actuator by a factor of 12 and to multiply torque accordingly. With a conversion factor of 9.6, an input torque of 8,330 Nm at the 95 mm input shaft produces the maximum 80,000 Nm at the output. In contrast to the GS part-turn gearboxes, the GHT is a multi-turn gearbox in which the output rotates through many revolutions to move the valve stem, and it is not self-locking.

Output speed depends on the speed of the multi-turn actuator. With an SA 30.1 running at 22 rpm the output turns at 2 rpm, at 32 rpm it turns at 2.8 rpm, at 45 rpm at 4 rpm, at 63 rpm at 5.6 rpm and at 90 rpm at 8 rpm, while 125 and 180 rpm actuators give 11 and 16 rpm on request with an actuator that is not self-locking. Open-close duty is short-time duty S2-15 minutes, and the lifetime for open-close duty is 5,000 operations with 30 turns per stroke.

Engineering Design of the AUMA GHT 360.2

The standard valve attachment is type C with a dog coupling, and options include type A with a stem nut for F40, F48 or F60, type B2 with an output drive plug sleeve, and type AF with a spring-loaded stem nut. The valve attachment adds roughly 150 kg for F40, 180 kg for F48 and 230 kg for F60 to the 965 kg gearbox. The housing is spheroidal cast iron, and the input shaft is 95 mm with a parallel key to DIN 6885.1.

Three input mounting flanges set the actuator size: F30 (29 kg flange, up to 260 kg actuator) for the SA 30.1, F35 (41 kg, up to 430 kg) for the SA 35.1 and F40 (53 kg, up to 530 kg) for the SA 40.1. Enclosure protection is IP67, corrosion protection is KN as standard with KS and KX options for aggressive atmospheres, and the temperature range is -40 to +80 degrees Celsius, with a -60 to +60 degree option. Four M36 eyebolts are supplied per order for transport.

Actuator Combinations for the AUMA GHT 360.2

AUMA lists the AUMA GHT 360.2 with three actuator sizes, each with its own mounting flange and speed range.

Actuator Input flange Flange weight Max. actuator weight Output speed
SA 30.1 F30 29 kg 260 kg 2 to 8 rpm (22 to 90 rpm actuator); 11 and 16 rpm on request
SA 35.1 F35 41 kg 430 kg 2 to 8 rpm (22 to 90 rpm actuator); 45 rpm and above on request
SA 40.1 F40 53 kg 530 kg 2 to 4 rpm (22 to 45 rpm actuator); 45 rpm on request

AUMA marks some of the higher-speed combinations as not self-locking, so the valve must hold its position on its own in those cases.

Key Features

The AUMA GHT 360.2 gives the heaviest multi-turn valves a single, rugged worm drive:

  • Maximum output torque of 80,000 Nm at a fixed 12:1 reduction ratio.
  • Conversion factor of 9.6 and input torque of 8,330 Nm at full load.
  • Dog coupling output as standard, with stem nut, plug sleeve and spring-loaded stem nut options.
  • Valve attachment F40, F48 or F60 to EN ISO 5210 (dimensions per EN ISO 5211).
  • Actuator mounting of SA 30.1, SA 35.1 and SA 40.1 through F30, F35 or F40 flanges.
  • Spheroidal cast iron housing with 95 mm input shaft and KN corrosion protection as standard.
  • Lifetime of 5,000 operations at 30 turns per stroke in open-close duty.
  • IP67 enclosure with an ambient range of -40 to +80 degrees Celsius.

Industrial Applications

The AUMA GHT 360.2 is aimed at valves whose torque requirement runs to tens of thousands of Newton-metres: large sluice-type gate valves on intake works, penstock isolation, large globe valves in power-plant circuits and similar installations. In the Gulf these are typically found in large desalination intakes and power-station cooling water systems, where a slow, powerful drive is more important than speed and the 2 to 8 rpm output range matches the required closing times.

In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC supplies the AUMA GHT 360.2 to EPC contractors and utility owners across Oman and the GCC, with project coordination for Sohar, Duqm and Salalah. See also the AUMA GST spur gearbox family for lower torque ranges and the AUMA GS part-turn gearbox range for quarter-turn valves. Complementary equipment is described on the AUMA SA 10.2 multi-turn actuator.

About brand
Electric actuators for industrial valves are the core of AUMA's business. Founded in 1964 and based in Müllheim, Germany, the company builds multi-turn, part-turn and linear actuators with matching gearboxes and actuator controls, in modular combinations that are fixed at the time of order. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing AUMA actuators, gearboxes, fail-safe units and the SIMA2 master station for valve automation projects and replacements in Oman and the GCC.

AUMA actuator and gearbox types

SA multi-turn actuators handle open-close duty on gate and globe valves, and SAR is the modulating version; the listing includes the SA 07.2, SA 10.2 and SA 25.1. SAEx and SAREx are the explosion-proof equivalents. Part-turn duty on ball and butterfly valves is covered by SQ and the modulating SQR, or by an SA actuator combined with a GS part-turn gearbox. LE linear thrust units convert multi-turn output to thrust, and GHT multi-turn gearboxes extend the torque range up to 120,000 Nm. PROFOX is the compact actuator line. Special items include the seawater-resistant SGM and SGMR part-turn actuators with bronze housings, the SVC and SVCR globe valve actuators and the FQM fail-safe unit. Integral controls come as AM or AC versions.

Where AUMA electric actuators are used

AUMA actuators are found in water, power, oil and gas, marine and general industry. In practice that means isolation and control valves in water treatment and pumping stations, power plant steam and cooling systems, tank farms and pipelines, and sluice gates and dampers.
