Selectarc Ni59 ENiCrMo-13 Alloy 59 Nickel Electrode

Description

Low-iron Ni-Cr-Mo electrode for aggressive media

The Selectarc Ni59 is a basic coated nickel-base electrode with an alloyed core wire that deposits alloy 59 type weld metal. It is classified AWS A5.11 ENiCrMo-13 and ISO 14172 E-Ni 6059 (NiCr23Mo16), UNS W86059. The deposit contains about 23% chromium and 15.8% molybdenum with very low iron, a combination designed for the most corrosive oxidising and reducing environments.

Selectarc highlights resistance in sulphurous acid, in highly concentrated chloride solutions and in the presence of oxidising salts such as ferric or cupric chloride. Operating characteristics on the data sheet are a stable arc, regular droplet transfer, a weld pool that is easy to watch and a clean bead appearance.

Where alloy 59 filler is used

Main applications named by Selectarc are offshore components, boilers, containers and piping systems in the chemical and petrochemical industries, and flue gas desulphurisation plants. The listed base metals are alloy C-22 (N06022, 2.4602), alloy 59 (N06059, 2.4605), C-276 (N10276, 2.4819), C-4 (N06455, 2.4610), 625 (N06625, 2.4856), 825 (N08825, 2.4858) and 254SMo (N08926, 1.4529).

ENiCrMo-13 is frequently selected as an over-alloyed filler for C-276, C-22 and 6Mo superaustenitic steels, because the higher chromium content improves resistance to oxidising acids while the molybdenum level stays close to C-276. Fabricators also use it for corrosion-resistant overlays on carbon or low-alloy steel where the clad layer must survive chloride-laden acidic condensates. For standard alloy 625 work, compare the related Selectarc Ni625 electrode.

Procedure notes

Joints must be clean and free of grease, oxide and cracks before welding. Keep the arc short with a slight electrode inclination and limit heat input by using stringer beads, with any weaving restricted to twice the core wire diameter. Selectarc states that nickel base alloys are welded without preheating and with an interpass temperature below 150 °C. Redry the electrodes for 1 hour at 250–300 °C.

Nickel alloy weld metal is viscous, so open bevel angles, careful tie-in at the sidewalls and thorough interpass grinding reduce the risk of lack of fusion. Where an overlay is applied to steel, the first layer will be diluted with iron, so the number of layers needed to reach the required chemistry at the surface should be confirmed during procedure qualification.

Store the electrodes in their sealed packaging until use and return partly used stock to a holding oven, since moisture in the coating can lead to porosity in nickel weld metal.

About brand

Selectarc is a French manufacturer of welding and brazing filler metals, headquartered in Grandvillars, France. Its welding activity began in 1952 with Selectarc Industrie, a plant making covered electrodes, and the business is the welding and brazing division of the family group Viellard Migeon & Compagnie. In 2025 Framatome took a 40% stake in the company.

Selectarc welding and brazing products

The welding range covers covered electrodes for carbon, low-alloy, stainless and nickel-base steels, MIG and TIG wires, flux-cored wires and hardfacing products, with brazing alloys made at the former Reboud-Roche foundry. Selectarc lists the nuclear, defence and aerospace industries among its key markets, and welding production is concentrated at its Grandvillars site, which also houses the research laboratory.

Ordering Selectarc filler metals: what we need

Give the product name, for example Selectarc Ni625, and the AWS or ISO classification in your procedure, the diameter and length, and the quantity. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, checks the grade against the Selectarc technical data sheet and can provide the data sheet and the certificates issued with the order on request.
