Selectarc FCW 316LP E316LT1-1/-4 All-Position Flux-Cored Wire
Description
All-position rutile flux-cored wire for 316L stainless steel
The Selectarc FCW 316LP is a gas-shielded flux-cored wire for welding 316L stainless steel, classified AWS A5.22 E316LT1-1/-4 and ISO 17633-A T 19 12 3 L P M21 (C1) 1. The rutile flux gives a fast-freezing slag, so the wire can be used in all positions, which suits site piping and vertical or overhead joints where a solid wire would be hard to run. Selectarc names thermal plant, piping and construction on the sea coast as main applications, for service temperatures not exceeding 400 C.
The data sheet gives one wire diameter, 1.2 mm, with a wide current window of 130 to 270 A.

Base materials covered
The data sheet lists 316 (UNS S31600, 1.4401), 316L (S31603, 1.4404), 316Ti (S31635, 1.4571), 304 (S30400, 1.4301) and 304L (S30403, 1.4306). The molybdenum content of 2.5 to 3.0% matches the 316 family, and the wire is also used on 304-type steels where the extra molybdenum for pitting resistance is wanted.
Welding practice with rutile stainless flux-cored wire
Flux-cored stainless wires of the T1 type run on DC electrode positive with an Ar/CO2 mix; the data sheet specifies M21 gas at 10 to 20 l/min. Keep the stick-out within 12 to 25 mm and use the lower end of the current range for out-of-position work and the upper end for flat and horizontal fills. The slag is removed after each pass and the joint is cleaned before the next one, as slag left behind causes inclusions and affects corrosion resistance. Interpass temperature limits and any heat input restrictions come from your welding procedure, not from the wire alone.
The typical ferrite number of FN 8 is a useful figure for 316L deposits: a few percent of ferrite in the austenitic matrix helps resist solidification cracking, and the typical impact value of 45 J at -60 C shows that the deposit stays tough at low temperature. If the project specifies a ferrite range or a corrosion test, verify it on the procedure test piece. Other all-position flux-cored wires are listed in the flux-cored welding wire category.

About brand
Selectarc is a French manufacturer of welding and brazing filler metals, headquartered in Grandvillars, France. Its welding activity began in 1952 with Selectarc Industrie, a plant making covered electrodes, and the business is the welding and brazing division of the family group Viellard Migeon & Compagnie. In 2025 Framatome took a 40% stake in the company.
Selectarc welding and brazing products
The welding range covers covered electrodes for carbon, low-alloy, stainless and nickel-base steels, MIG and TIG wires, flux-cored wires and hardfacing products, with brazing alloys made at the former Reboud-Roche foundry. Selectarc lists the nuclear, defence and aerospace industries among its key markets, and welding production is concentrated at its Grandvillars site, which also houses the research laboratory.
Ordering Selectarc filler metals: what we need
Give the product name, for example Selectarc Ni625, and the AWS or ISO classification in your procedure, the diameter and length, and the quantity. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, checks the grade against the Selectarc technical data sheet and can provide the data sheet and the certificates issued with the order on request.
