Selectarc Inox 2509MoB E2594-15 Super Duplex Electrode
Description
Super duplex weld metal with a basic coating
The Selectarc Inox 2509MoB is a basic coated stick electrode for super duplex stainless steels. Its deposit has an austenitic-ferritic structure with roughly 40% ferrite and a pitting resistance equivalent number above 40. The data sheet classifies it as AWS A5.4 E2594-15 and ISO 3581-A / EN 1600 E 25 9 4 N L B 4 2.
The weld metal resists pitting, crevice corrosion and chloride stress corrosion cracking and can be used at operating temperatures up to 250 °C. Selectarc names butt welding and cladding of wrought and cast super duplex in pumps, vessels and piping that handle chloride-bearing solutions, as well as impellers and other parts that need high strength together with corrosion resistance.

Matching super duplex and duplex grades
The listed base metals cover the full duplex family: UNS S32750 (2507, 1.4410), S32760 (1.4501), S32550 and the 52N+ grade (1.4517, 1.4507), plus leaner S31803 (1.4462), S32304 (1.4362) and S32900 (329, 1.4460). For standard 2205 work a 22 9 3 consumable is usually sufficient; the 25 9 4 composition earns its place where seawater, produced water or firewater systems need the higher pitting margin of super duplex.
Compared with rutile coated alternatives, the basic coating generally gives better low-temperature toughness and lower diffusible hydrogen, which is why basic grades are common on thick-walled super duplex piping, flanges and pump casings.
Controlling heat input on super duplex joints
Super duplex is less forgiving than standard duplex. A high interpass temperature or excessive heat input can promote sigma and other intermetallic phases, while very low heat input leaves too much ferrite. Selectarc specifies an interpass temperature below 150 °C, a short arc and a slight electrode inclination. Redry the electrodes for 2–3 hours at 250–300 °C before use and keep them dry on the job.
Qualification of super duplex procedures normally includes ferrite counts, impact tests at -40 °C or lower and a corrosion test such as ASTM G48, so confirm these requirements before ordering. The 2.5 mm size suits root and thin sections, while 4.0 and 5.0 mm electrodes speed up fill passes on heavy walls.
When super duplex is joined to carbon steel or to austenitic stainless steel, dilution changes the weld chemistry, so the procedure should be qualified on the actual combination. Store opened packets in a heated holding oven and discard electrodes with damaged coating.

About brand
Selectarc is a French manufacturer of welding and brazing filler metals, headquartered in Grandvillars, France. Its welding activity began in 1952 with Selectarc Industrie, a plant making covered electrodes, and the business is the welding and brazing division of the family group Viellard Migeon & Compagnie. In 2025 Framatome took a 40% stake in the company.
Selectarc welding and brazing products
The welding range covers covered electrodes for carbon, low-alloy, stainless and nickel-base steels, MIG and TIG wires, flux-cored wires and hardfacing products, with brazing alloys made at the former Reboud-Roche foundry. Selectarc lists the nuclear, defence and aerospace industries among its key markets, and welding production is concentrated at its Grandvillars site, which also houses the research laboratory.
Ordering Selectarc filler metals: what we need
Give the product name, for example Selectarc Ni625, and the AWS or ISO classification in your procedure, the diameter and length, and the quantity. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, checks the grade against the Selectarc technical data sheet and can provide the data sheet and the certificates issued with the order on request.
