OTC Daihen WB-A350P Welbee AC/DC Pulse TIG Welder
Overview
The OTC Daihen WB-A350P is a Welbee inverter AC/DC pulse TIG welding power source designed to cover the full range from ultra-thin sheet to thick plate in aluminium, stainless steel and carbon steel. OTC Daihen offers AC, DC and AC+DC hybrid TIG modes, welding current up to 350 A, AC pulse frequency up to 500 Hz and support for manual, semi-automatic, automated and robotic applications. The datasheet highlights its stable arc at very low current, with AC output down to 5 A, and its high AC duty cycle for heavy aluminium work.
Seven Star LLC supplies the OTC Daihen WB-A350P to fabrication shops, pipe and vessel manufacturers, maintenance departments and automation integrators in Oman and the GCC. With engineering support in Muscat, we help customers choose the right torch, cooling arrangement and remote control options, and we can discuss fieldbus interfaces where the welder will be integrated with a robot or automatic fixture.
Arc Control and Welding Modes
TIG welding, in general, uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode and inert shielding gas, with filler wire added separately by hand or by a feeder. DC electrode-negative gives deep penetration on steels and stainless, while AC is used on aluminium because the electrode-positive half cycle breaks up the surface oxide. The OTC Daihen WB-A350P adjusts AC frequency from 30 to 500 Hz; the datasheet explains that a higher AC frequency produces a tighter, more concentrated arc, demonstrated on 0.2 mm soft aluminium at 5 A and 500 Hz.
The AC+DC hybrid mode alternates AC and DC at 0.1 to 50 Hz, combining the deep penetration of DC with the cleaning action of AC and, according to OTC Daihen, extending tungsten electrode life. DC pulse frequency is adjustable from 0.1 to 999 Hz with pulse width adjustable between 5 and 95% using the function key, and AC balance can be set between minus 20 and plus 20%. A TIG interval function controls arc on and arc off time to limit heat input, helping to prevent burn-through and distortion on thin sections.
Engineering Design of the OTC Daihen WB-A350P
The OTC Daihen WB-A350P runs on 460 V plus or minus 10% three-phase supply at 50/60 Hz in the version covered by the datasheet, with rated input of about 12.2 kVA in AC TIG and 12.3 kVA in DC TIG. Rated output current is 5 to 350 A in AC TIG and 2 to 350 A in DC TIG, with 250 A available in AC and DC stick modes. The rated duty cycle is 40%, while the AC duty cycle figures quoted elsewhere in the document are 350 A at 40%, 300 A at 60% and 270 A at 100%, allowing continuous AC welding at 270 A. External dimensions are 395 x 710 x 640 mm without the carrying handle, and the mass is 56 kg.
Current is adjustable in 0.1 A increments from 1.0 to 9.9 A and in 1 A steps from 10 to 350 A, which gives very fine heat control on thin stainless. Up to 100 welding conditions can be stored as jobs on the OTC Daihen WB-A350P. Starting is by high-frequency or lift start, and pre-flow, after-flow, up-slope, down-slope, crater filler and arc spot timers are all adjustable. A welding setting guide automatically proposes welding current, initial current and crater current once the operator enters electrode diameter, base material, joint shape and thickness.
Key Features
The capabilities below explain why the OTC Daihen WB-A350P is specified for demanding TIG work.
- AC, DC and AC+DC hybrid TIG modes allow one power source to weld aluminium, stainless steel and carbon steel.
- AC frequency up to 500 Hz tightens the arc for precise welds on thin material.
- AC output down to 5 A and 0.1 A setting steps below 10 A give stable low-current welding on foil-thin sections.
- A 100% AC duty cycle at 270 A supports multi-pass welding of thick aluminium plate.
- The welding setting guide selects recommended conditions from four material and joint parameters.
- Optional EtherNet/IP, PROFIBUS and PROFINET interfaces connect the welder to robot or PLC controllers.
- The TIG interval function controls heat input to reduce burn-through and distortion.
- Job memory stores up to 100 welding conditions for repeatable production.
Industrial Applications
High-quality TIG welding is essential where joints must be clean, leak-tight and corrosion resistant. In Oman the OTC Daihen WB-A350P suits stainless steel piping for desalination plants and food processing facilities, aluminium fabrication for marine and transport work in Sohar and Duqm, instrument tubing and small-bore pipe in oil and gas maintenance shops, and precision repairs on pumps and heat exchangers. In robotic mode the OTC Daihen WB-A350P and an optional feeder are controlled from the robot teach pendant, so it can also serve automated TIG cells.
