Honeywell UDC2800 1/4 DIN Digital Temperature Controller
Description
UDC2800 1/4 DIN universal digital controller
The Honeywell UDC2800 is a panel-mounted, 1/4 DIN universal digital controller for temperature and other process loops. It is the successor to the UDC2500 and UDC3200 families, keeping the same case size, rear terminal layout and set-up structure while adding a full-colour TFT display, Bluetooth configuration, faster sampling and tighter accuracy. Seven Star LLC supplies UDC2800 controllers and related UDC spares in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat, and this page sets out what the controller does and how to specify one.
UDC2800 is a model family. Inputs, outputs, communication boards and approvals are fitted to a specific build, so the exact configuration is fixed when the unit is ordered. The notes below explain each choice so that an enquiry can be answered without delay.

How the UDC2800 controls a process
The UDC2800 reads a measurement from one of its universal inputs, compares it with the active setpoint and calculates an output using a PID algorithm. A thermocouple or RTD measures the temperature, and the controller drives a relay, a current output or an open collector to a heater contactor, a valve or a power controller. The sample interval is 100 ms, so quick transients on small furnaces and heaters are caught earlier than on slower controllers.
Accutune III looks at how the process responds and sets the PID terms automatically, and fuzzy logic suppresses overshoot when the setpoint changes. Duplex outputs let one controller drive both heating and cooling, which suits environmental chambers and extruders. For batch heat treatment, setpoint programmers hold up to 64 linked segments in 8 programs, so a ramp-and-soak profile runs without an external timer. A second analog input can be used for a remote setpoint, a carbon or oxygen probe signal, or a backup measurement.
UDC2800 replacement of UDC2500 and UDC3200
A major reason plants specify the UDC2800 is that it replaces its older siblings without panel work. The manufacturer states that it keeps the 1/4 DIN size, the rear case, the terminal arrangement and the set-up structure of the UDC2500 and UDC3200, so a swap does not require rewiring. Spares in the Honeywell catalogue include the DIN adapter kit for UDC2500, UDC3200 and UDC2800, front panel assemblies for UDC 28/29, power-output boards with electromechanical relays, analog input and control output boards, and auxiliary output and digital input boards with RS422/485 communication.
When replacing a legacy controller, record the old model number and option codes, the wiring of each terminal, the input type and range, the alarm and output assignments and the tuning values, and give them to us with the request. Re-enter or clone the configuration over Bluetooth after fitting the new unit and verify every input and output against the process before returning the loop to automatic.
UDC2800 selection and ordering checklist
- Input type and range for each channel: thermocouple type, RTD, mA, mV or V.
- Number and type of outputs: relay, dual relay, current, open collector and transmitter power.
- Heating only, heating and cooling (duplex), or valve position with three-position step.
- Setpoint programmer need: ramp-and-soak profiles, number of programs and segments.
- Communication: Modbus RTU, Ethernet TCP/IP or Bluetooth, and the protocol of the supervisory system.
- Supply voltage: 90 to 264 V AC or 24 V AC/DC.
- Panel cutout, depth available behind the panel and whether the front must meet NEMA 4X or IP66.
- Approvals needed for your project: UL, CSA, or FM high-limit use for heat-treatment duty.
Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the UDC2800
Mount the controller in a panel cutout of the standard 1/4 DIN size, with 4.5 in (114 mm) depth behind the front. Use the supplied clamps so that the gasket seals the front for washdown. Keep thermocouple and RTD wiring away from power cables, use the correct compensating cable for thermocouples and ground shields at one end only. Confirm that supply voltage matches the label before power-up.
On first start, choose the input type, range and units, then set outputs, alarms and the control algorithm. Run the auto-tune with the process at its normal operating condition, then check for overshoot at the setpoint. The EasySet app and Bluetooth link let you clone a configuration from one controller to the next, download diagnostic data and share it for troubleshooting, which shortens commissioning on a line with many identical units. The manufacturer also mentions Chamber-IQ remote connectivity for alarm data. Maintenance is light: inspect terminals for tightness and heat discolouration at shutdowns, replace output relays that show wear, and keep a backup of the configuration with the spare. Treat the keyboard security code like any control-system password.
Typical UDC2800 applications in Oman and the GCC
The UDC2800 targets furnaces, ovens, boilers, heaters, environmental chambers, cookers, dryers and freezers, which are all present across the Gulf. Heat treatment and aerospace-related workshops use the programmer and high-accuracy inputs. Food and beverage plants benefit from the NEMA 4X, IP66 front for washdown areas. Oil and gas and petrochemical facilities use panel controllers for skid heaters, tracing and small furnaces where a full DCS loop is not justified, and utilities use them for boiler auxiliaries and oven-based lab equipment. In hot panels, keep the controller within its 0 to 55°C ambient limit with ventilation or enclosure cooling, and avoid direct sun on the display.

About brand
Honeywell is the American industrial technology group whose products on this site cover gas and flame detection, pressure transmitters, flow measurement, gas metering, fire alarm systems and helicopter rotor balancing equipment. Its roots go back to a thermostat business in Minneapolis in 1885 and to Mark Honeywell's heating company, which merged with it in 1927. Several brands we list have joined Honeywell over the years: Gent fire systems of Leicester (part of Honeywell since 2005), Chadwick-Helmuth (a Honeywell business unit from 2002) and Elster gas metering (acquired around the end of 2015).

Gas detection uses two basic approaches. Point detectors such as the Sensepoint XCD measure the gas at one location, with a catalytic or infrared sensor for flammable gas and an electrochemical cell for toxic gas such as H2S. Open path detectors such as the Searchline Excel send an infrared beam across an area up to a few hundred metres long and detect a gas cloud anywhere along it. Infrared sensors cannot be poisoned the way catalytic beads can, which matters on sites with silicones or H2S.
Where Honeywell products are used
In Oman and the GCC, Honeywell gas detectors protect wellheads, gas plants, refineries and tank farms. Elster meters and flow computers measure gas at city gate stations and in industry. Gent systems are installed in commercial buildings, hospitals and hotels, and Chadwick-Helmuth balancers are used by helicopter operators.
Ordering Honeywell products: what we need
Send the part number from the label (for example 02104-N-XSSA or SPXCDASMTXF). For gas detectors, add the gas, range, output and certification. For gas meters, add size (DN), flow range and pressure rating. For Gent equipment, add the panel type and loop protocol.
Facts checked against Honeywell press releases and SEC filings, and published histories of Gent and Chadwick-Helmuth, October 2026.
