Yokogawa UP55A Program Controller with 99 Patterns

Description

A ramp-and-soak controller for furnaces, ovens and test chambers

The Yokogawa UP55A is a 96 x 96 mm program controller in the UTAdvanced family, designed for processes that follow a time-based setpoint profile such as heat treatment, curing, drying, annealing, environmental testing and batch heating and cooling. It stores up to 30 program patterns and 300 program segments as standard, and up to 99 patterns and 600 segments when the /AP option is fitted, with up to 99 segments per pattern. The operator can switch between patterns according to operating status, link patterns, edit segments, and copy or delete a pattern.

The same colour LCD, ladder sequence function, 65 mm panel depth and IP66 front as the other UTAdvanced controllers apply. Universal I/O and cascade, PV-switching and PV auto-selector control modes are included, with PID, heating/cooling and feed-forward control and the Super and Super 2 overshoot and hunting suppression functions.

Program pattern functions

Each segment is defined by a segment time (0.00 to 999.59, in hours and minutes or minutes and seconds) or by a slope. Each pattern can repeat 0 to 999 times or continuously. Eight PV events can trigger on PV, setpoint, deviation or target-setpoint limits and output limits, and sixteen time events switch outputs at set times within a pattern, with five groups of wait operation (upper and lower wait zones around the program setpoint) so a segment timer holds while the process catches up. A fast-forward function (2, 5, 10 or 20 times) speeds up the time of segments and time events when you are checking a pattern, and synchronized program operation allows a faster unit to be held by a digital input while others catch up. PID parameters can be selected by segment, measured-input zone, target-setpoint zone, reached-setpoint zone or local mode. Operation modes include start (PROG), stop (RESET), hold, advance segment (ADV), local and remote, with auto and manual switching.

Model code, I/O and options

The UP55A comes with retransmission output or a 15 V DC loop supply, 8 digital inputs and 8 digital outputs as standard. Type 1 gives the basic control: -0 standard, -1 position proportional or -2 heating/cooling. Type 2 adds functions: 1 for a remote auxiliary analog input and one more DI, 2 for RS-485 (19.2 kbps), 3 for ten additional DOs and 4 for three auxiliary analog inputs (with two DIs and five DOs deleted). Type 3 is the open network: 0 none, 1 RS-485 (38.4 kbps), 2 Ethernet with serial gateway, 3 CC-Link, 4 PROFIBUS-DP, 5 DeviceNet. Option codes are /AP for 69 more patterns and 300 more segments, /DR for an additional direct input (thermocouple, 3- or 4-wire RTD, or current) in place of the remote input and one DI, /HA heater break alarm, /DC 24 V AC/DC supply and /CT coating, which removes UL, CSA and CE conformity. Type 2 code 3 allows only network code 0.

Installation and what to confirm before ordering

The control period is 100 or 200 ms. Confirm the number of patterns and segments you need (the standard 30 and 300 versus the /AP option), the segment time range, the event and time-event outputs for your furnace or equipment, the sensor type, actuator output, communication protocol and panel size. The attached file is the 13-page Yokogawa general specification GS 05P02C41-01EN, which also lists the input accuracy tables and wiring. Standard controllers for fixed setpoints are in controllers and data acquisition, including the UT75A with a 20-segment pattern. Send the full code for a quotation.

About brand

Yokogawa instruments are ordered by model and suffix code, a string such as EJX110A followed by option characters that fix span, materials and approvals. Founded in 1915 and headquartered in Tokyo, Yokogawa makes field instruments, process analyzers and the CENTUM control system used in refineries, gas plants and power stations.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing Yokogawa pressure transmitters, flowmeters, temperature transmitters, analyzers and CENTUM I/O modules for users in Oman and the GCC.

Yokogawa product families on this page

Pressure is covered by the DPharp transmitters: the EJX110A differential pressure transmitter, the EJX530A and EJA530E in-line gauge pressure transmitters and the EJX910A multivariable transmitter. The ADMAG AXW is the magnetic flowmeter line, and the YTA610 and YTA710 are temperature transmitters. Analyzers include the FLXA402 four-wire and FLXA21 two-wire liquid analyzers, the TDLS8000 tunable diode laser gas analyzer and spare parts for zirconia oxygen analyzers, such as the E7042UD cell assembly kit for the ZR22 detector. Control hardware includes CENTUM VP I/O modules like the ADV161 digital input module and the YS1700 programmable indicating controller.

Where Yokogawa instruments are used

EJA and EJX transmitters measure pressure, level and DP flow throughout oil and gas, chemical and power plants. Zirconia oxygen analyzers and the TDLS8000 are used for combustion control on boilers and fired heaters. FLXA analyzers monitor pH, conductivity and dissolved oxygen in water and process streams, and CENTUM modules are bought as replacements for running control systems.

Ordering Yokogawa parts: what we need

Send the model and suffix code and the serial number from the nameplate, and for CENTUM modules the style code as well. For transmitters without a code we need span, output protocol, wetted materials, process connection, housing and the approval required. For oxygen analyzer spare parts give the detector and converter models, for example ZR22G and ZR402G, and the part number.
