National Instruments

CompactRIO is the product most plant engineers associate with National Instruments, now branded NI: a controller that pairs a real-time processor with a user-programmable FPGA and takes plug-in C Series I/O modules. The company was founded in 1976 in Austin, USA, and works in test and measurement systems. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies NI CompactRIO controllers and related hardware for monitoring and control projects in Oman and the GCC.

NI CompactRIO controllers listed

Two controllers are on this page, the cRIO-9035 and the cRIO-9053. Both run the NI Linux Real-Time operating system. NI describes the cRIO-9053 as a four-slot controller with a 1.33 GHz dual-core Intel Atom processor and an Artix-7 50T FPGA, with I/O reached through NI-DAQmx drivers or the LabVIEW FPGA Module. The cRIO-9035 is a different model with its own slot count and FPGA, so the two are not interchangeable without a check of the application.

Ordering NI hardware: what we need

Send the model name (for example cRIO-9053) and the NI part number from the label, which looks like 78xxxx-01. List the C Series modules that will sit in the chassis, and say which software versions the project uses, because driver support depends on the controller generation. For a replacement, a photo of the label avoids confusion between similar model numbers.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I identify the exact NI CompactRIO model?
The model name, such as cRIO-9035 or cRIO-9053, is printed on the front of the controller. The label also carries an NI part number of six digits plus a suffix, and a serial number. Send the model name and the part number together, since some models exist in more than one variant, for example with different temperature ratings or coatings.
Is the cRIO-9053 programmed differently from older CompactRIO controllers?
According to NI, the cRIO-9053 lets you reach module I/O either through NI-DAQmx drivers or through the LabVIEW FPGA Module, and it runs NI Linux Real-Time. Older controllers use other programming modes. If you are moving an existing application to a newer controller, tell us the present model and software version so compatibility can be checked in NI's documentation first.
Do my existing C Series modules fit a new controller?
C Series modules share one mechanical format, but support for a given module depends on the controller and on the driver and software version. Send the list of module numbers (NI 92xx and similar) together with the controller model. We check NI's compatibility information before confirming that the combination works.
Is Seven Star LLC a distributor of National Instruments?
No. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier, not an NI distributor or partner. We source NI hardware through commercial channels, check the model and part number against the manufacturer's documentation, and provide the manufacturer's specification sheets with the order on request.
