Industrial Scientific Radius BZ1 Area Monitor
Overview
The Industrial Scientific Radius BZ1 is a transportable area monitor built to watch an entire work zone rather than a single worker. Instead of relying only on the personal detectors clipped to each technician, the Industrial Scientific Radius BZ1 stands on its own base at the boundary of a hazard – a tank entry, a turnaround work front, a fence line around a hot-work job – and continuously reports oxygen, combustible gas, toxic gases and other hazards to everyone nearby. Its removable SafeCore module can read up to seven hazards at the same time from a library of 24 sensors, including photoionization (PID), gamma radiation and three different types of LEL sensor.
Seven Star LLC supplies the Industrial Scientific Radius BZ1 to oil and gas operators, refineries, EPC contractors and maintenance companies across the Sultanate of Oman and the wider GCC. From our base in Muscat we help HSE teams choose the right sensor set, power option and wireless arrangement, and we provide engineering support so that area monitoring for shutdowns and confined-space work can be planned.
How the Industrial Scientific Radius BZ1 Monitors a Work Area
Every piece of critical technology in the Industrial Scientific Radius BZ1 – sensors, software, pump and wireless electronics – lives inside the SafeCore module. The module sits face down in the tall, cone-shaped housing so that rain, dust and direct sun do not interfere with the sensor faces, and the instrument detects gas across a 360-degree path. That orientation is one reason the manufacturer reports fewer nuisance alarms in harsh outdoor sites. For combustible gas the user can choose a catalytic bead sensor, an infrared sensor or a Molecular Property Spectrometer (MPS) sensor, and DualSense technology can pair two sensors on the same gas so that a reading is confirmed rather than taken from a single cell.
When a hazard is found, the Industrial Scientific Radius BZ1 alarms locally with redundant 105 dB audible alarms at 1 m and red and blue LEDs, and it shows a large backlit graphical display that can carry customised messages such as “EVACUATE” or “VENTILATE”. With optional LENS Wireless, alarms are shared peer-to-peer between connected instruments, so a gas event at one end of a unit can trigger alerts on every monitor in the group without IT set-up or extra infrastructure.
Engineering Design of the Industrial Scientific Radius BZ1
The housing of the Industrial Scientific Radius BZ1 is made from impact-resistant polycarbonate alloys rated IP66, measures 29 x 29 x 55 cm and weighs 7.5 kg, light enough to be carried by its handle and stable enough to be left in the field. Power comes from a rechargeable nickel-metal hydride pack with a recharge time of eight hours or less. Run time depends on configuration: the datasheet lists up to 7 days for a catalytic bead four-gas set with LENS, up to 30 days with an infrared LEL sensor, up to 45 days with MPS, and up to 75 days for instruments without a wireless connection. With an external power supply the run time is unlimited.
An optional integral pump in the Industrial Scientific Radius BZ1 can draw a sample through up to 30.48 m (100 ft) of tubing, which is useful for checking a vessel or pit before entry from a safe position. Because the SafeCore module slides out of its base, it can be swapped in the field or docked in a DSX Docking Station for automated calibration and record keeping while the base stays in place. For remote supervision the RGX Gateway can send location, gas readings and real-time alerts to the cloud.
Key Features
The main practical advantages of the Industrial Scientific Radius BZ1 for site safety teams are:
- Up to six sensors and up to seven simultaneous readings from one removable SafeCore module.
- A library of 24 sensors, including PID for volatile organic compounds, gamma radiation and three LEL technologies.
- Redundant 105 dB audible alarms at 1 m and bright red and blue visual alarm LEDs for noisy plant areas.
- Customisable on-screen alarm messages that tell workers exactly what action to take.
- LENS Wireless peer-to-peer alarm sharing with up to 25 devices per group and about 300 m line-of-sight range.
- DualSense technology that uses two sensors on the same gas to improve confidence and reduce false alarms.
- Battery run time up to 75 days depending on configuration, or unlimited with external power.
- Data log of at least three months at 10-second intervals plus a 60-event alarm log.
Industrial Applications
In Oman the Industrial Scientific Radius BZ1 is well suited to plant turnarounds and shutdowns at refineries and gas processing facilities, where dozens of contractors open vessels, break flanges and carry out hot work at the same time. Placing an area monitor at each work front gives a permanent warning point that does not depend on every individual remembering to check a personal detector. It is equally useful along well-site perimeters in the interior concession areas, around tank cleaning operations, at sewage and wastewater lift stations, and inside large confined spaces where conditions can change during a shift.
Area monitors work best alongside personal protection. Many crews pair the Industrial Scientific Radius BZ1 with the Industrial Scientific Ventis Pro5 multi-gas monitor or a Dräger X-am 2500 multi-gas detector worn by each entrant, while fixed points such as the Honeywell XNX Excel transmitter cover permanent process areas. Seven Star LLC supplies the Industrial Scientific Radius BZ1 to operators in Muscat, Sohar, Duqm and Salalah, with engineering support for configuration and spare SafeCore modules.

Industrial Scientific monitors listed
Three instruments are on this page. The Ventis Pro5 is a personal multi-gas monitor that, according to the manufacturer, reads up to five gases at once, has man-down and panic alarms, an optional pump and LENS wireless links between instruments. The MX6 iBrid is a multi-gas monitor for a larger sensor set. The Radius BZ1 is an area monitor, placed at a work site to watch the surrounding air.Ordering Industrial Scientific gas monitors: what we need
These instruments are built to order around a sensor list. State each gas you need, for example LEL, O2, CO and H2S, and the LEL sensor type if your site standard names one. Say whether a pump is required, which battery, and the approval marking your site accepts. Add chargers, docking stations and test gas fittings if needed. For spare sensors, send the instrument model, its serial number and the sensor part number.Browse Industrial Scientific products by category: Fire & Gas Detector.
