DURAG D-HG 400 High Energy Ignition Device
Overview
The DURAG D-HG 400 is a high-energy ignition device built to reliably ignite oil and gas burners in industrial combustion systems, from steam generators to flare stacks. Rather than relying on a standard low-energy spark igniter that can struggle in harsh burner environments, the D-HG 400 stores 4.5Ws of energy in a high-voltage capacitor and discharges it through a thyristor switch to deliver a strong, consistent 1,500-volt spark at the ignition tip.
As part of DURAG’s established combustion ignition range, the D-HG 400 is engineered for demanding startup conditions where reliable first-attempt ignition matters for both safety and process efficiency. Seven Star LLC supplies the DURAG D-HG 400 as an authorized DURAG instrumentation partner to power, refining, and process facilities across Oman and the GCC.
Operating Principle
The D-HG 400 charges its internal high-voltage capacitor and discharges it through a thyristor switching circuit to the ignition lance tip, generating a series of high-energy sparks. During the critical first minute of burner startup, it fires at approximately 20 sparks per second to maximize ignition probability, then drops to a steady-state rate of approximately 5 sparks per second for continued pilot or main-flame ignition support. The ignition tip is rated for roughly 1 million sparks, equivalent to about 14 continuous hours of operation at the initial 20 sparks/second rate.
Engineering Design of the DURAG D-HG 400
The D-HG 400 is available in 230VAC, 115VAC, and 24VDC power supply configurations, plus a battery-powered D-HG 400-81 variant for portable ignition applications. Standard ignition lances come with a 3m cable length, with custom lengths down to 700mm available for tighter installations, and a lance diameter of 22mm (25mm reinforced option for higher-stress installations). The device operates across an ambient temperature range of −20°C to +60°C, with Ex-rated models limited to a maximum surface temperature of 85°C, and carries ATEX, GOST-R, FM, and CSA certifications across its model variants.
Key Features
- 4.5Ws stored energy, 1,500V spark output at the ignition tip
- 20 sparks/second initial rate, ~5 sparks/second steady-state
- Ignition tip rated for ~1 million sparks (~14 hours continuous)
- 230VAC, 115VAC, 24VDC, or battery-powered variants
- Standard 3m cable, custom lengths from 700mm
- 22mm lance diameter, 25mm reinforced option
- Operating range −20°C to +60°C
- ATEX, GOST-R, FM, and CSA certified variants (II 2G, II 2GD)
Industrial Applications
The D-HG 400 is specified for burner ignition in steam generators, cement kilns, refinery process heaters, waste incinerators, and flare stack pilot ignition systems across Muscat, Sohar, and Salalah, where reliable first-attempt ignition reduces startup delays and unburned-fuel safety risk. Its explosion-proof-rated variants make it suitable for hazardous-area burner installations.
Across the GCC’s power generation, refining, and cement sectors, the D-HG 400’s high spark energy and rapid initial firing rate are particularly valued for difficult-to-ignite fuels or burners operating in high-airflow conditions where a lower-energy igniter would struggle to establish a stable flame on the first attempt.
