Böhler FOXcore 71 RC E71T-1 All-Position Flux-Cored Wire

Description

All-position rutile flux-cored wire for mild steel fabrication

The Böhler FOXcore 71 RC is a rutile flux-cored wire with a fast-freezing slag system for all-position welding, listed as AWS A5.20 E71T-1 / T-9 / T-12M-JH8 (with Ar-CO2 gas) and E71T-1 / T-9 / T-12C-JH8 (with CO2). Böhler Welding states that all-position welding is possible with the 0.045 in wire and a single set of parameters, and cites excellent mechanical properties, easy slag removal, low spatter, a finely rippled bead and X-ray quality welds. The data sheet is titled BÖHLER Q 71 RC, the product name under which this wire appears on Böhler’s US data sheet. It is aimed at productivity gains in shipyards and structural shops, where moving between flat, vertical and overhead positions with one setting saves time.

Base materials and gas choice

Böhler lists steels up to 460 MPa (67 ksi) yield strength with M21 shielding gas, including S235JR to S355J2, S275N to S460N, P235GH to P355GH, L245NB to L450MB, shipbuilding steels A, B, D, E and A 32 to E 36, and ASTM A 106 Gr. A to C, A 516 Gr. 55 to 70, A 572 and API 5L Gr. B to X65. The two gas columns above show the trade-off: Ar-CO2 mixed gas gives the higher toughness at -40 °F, while pure CO2 trades some toughness for cheaper gas. Gas, spool and certificate notes

Confirm the shielding gas and the certificate level in the enquiry, because the classification, toughness and hydrogen level depend on whether the project uses Ar-CO2 or CO2. Also state the diameter, spool or drum format your wire feeder takes, the quantity, the plate grade and thickness, and any class approval (ABS, DNV GL, LR, BV) the contract requires, so that the request can be matched with the approvals printed on the data sheet.

About brand

Böhler Welding is the welding consumables brand of voestalpine Böhler Welding, part of the voestalpine group, with a portfolio that covers stick electrodes, TIG rods, solid wires, gas-shielded and self-shielded flux-cored wires and submerged-arc wires and fluxes. The company states more than 100 years of experience. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists Böhler Welding consumables and welding machines, including pipeline electrodes, and sources Böhler Welding consumables for fabricators and pipeline contractors.

Böhler Welding product groups

Beyond the consumables above, Böhler Welding lists strip cladding, wire arc additive manufacturing, metal powders, arc spraying cored wires, ceramic weld backing, brazing consumables and welding automation such as orbital welding and collaborative robots. The pipeline range includes cellulosic FOX CEL electrodes and basic vertical-down FOX BVD electrodes for large-diameter line pipe.

Ordering Böhler Welding consumables: what we need

Give the product name, the AWS or EN classification, the diameter and length, and the packaging you need. For pipeline electrodes also state the pipe grade, wall thickness, welding position and whether sour-service test values are required, because the Böhler Welding data sheets note that some test values are available on request.
