Böhler Welding TERRA 500 RC Stick (MMA) Welding Machine

Description

A 500 A stick welding inverter for heavy fabrication

The Böhler Welding TERRA 500 RC is a three-phase MMA (stick) welding inverter with an adjustment range of 3 to 500 A. Böhler Welding describes it as easy to use, simply switch on and weld, and ideal for gouging. The machine also provides a power output for small low-voltage electric tools such as an angle grinder, which the data sheet calls really useful on site.

Welding functions listed are Hot Start, Arc Force and DPC, and a voltage reducing device (VRD) is included.

Hot start, arc force and gouging

Hot Start adds a short current boost at the beginning of the weld to ignite basic and cellulosic coatings reliably, and Arc Force raises the current when the arc voltage drops, which prevents the electrode from sticking. DPC is listed as a further function in the sheet. For pipe and structural work the 3 to 500 A range covers small-diameter electrodes up to heavy-duty rods, and the data sheet marks the machine as ideal for gouging, where its 100 % rating of 420 A at 40 degrees C and 470 A at 25 degrees C applies.

Remote controls from the RC series are listed for adjusting current at the work position.

Site use and safety

The VRD lowers the open-circuit voltage in confined or damp conditions according to the relevant standard, and the ELV output gives a low-voltage tool supply of 12 to 60 V without a separate transformer. A 40 A fuse and a 4 x 6 mm2 supply cable are listed; generator sets feeding the machine should be sized above the 29.7 kVA maximum input power. Electrode type, polarity and amperage come from the electrode manufacturer data and the welding procedure.

About brand

Böhler Welding is the welding consumables brand of voestalpine Böhler Welding, part of the voestalpine group, with a portfolio that covers stick electrodes, TIG rods, solid wires, gas-shielded and self-shielded flux-cored wires and submerged-arc wires and fluxes. The company states more than 100 years of experience. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists Böhler Welding consumables and welding machines, including pipeline electrodes, and sources Böhler Welding consumables for fabricators and pipeline contractors.

Böhler Welding product groups

Beyond the consumables above, Böhler Welding lists strip cladding, wire arc additive manufacturing, metal powders, arc spraying cored wires, ceramic weld backing, brazing consumables and welding automation such as orbital welding and collaborative robots. The pipeline range includes cellulosic FOX CEL electrodes and basic vertical-down FOX BVD electrodes for large-diameter line pipe.

Ordering Böhler Welding consumables: what we need

Give the product name, the AWS or EN classification, the diameter and length, and the packaging you need. For pipeline electrodes also state the pipe grade, wall thickness, welding position and whether sour-service test values are required, because the Böhler Welding data sheets note that some test values are available on request.
