KISWEL K-NGS308L E308LT0-3 Gasless Stainless Flux-Cored Wire

Description

Self-shielded stainless wire for 304-type steels

The KISWEL K-NGS308L is a lime-titania type flux-cored wire for self-shielded welding of low-carbon 18% Cr, 8% Ni stainless steel. It is used without a shielding gas in the flat and horizontal positions, which makes it practical for site repairs and for work with portable welding machines where a gas bottle is inconvenient.

KISWEL describes easy slag removal, an open-arc transfer, low spatter, a smooth bead surface and sound radiographs. The weld metal contains a low ferrite content within an austenitic structure for good corrosion and heat resistance.

Application notes for gasless stainless welding

The KISWEL catalogue lists 304, 304L, 308, 201, 202 and 203 type stainless steels as base metals. The “-3” suffix in E308LT0-3 identifies a self-shielded wire, and the “T0” designation limits it to flat and horizontal welding. Vertical and overhead joints therefore need a different consumable, such as a gas-shielded all-position stainless wire or a stick electrode.

Self-shielded stainless wires are sensitive to moisture pick-up. KISWEL advises storing opened spools in a low-humidity area, especially during humid seasons or where condensation can form. Keep stick-out and voltage within the recommended range: a long arc can raise nitrogen pick-up and reduce ferrite, which increases the risk of hot cracking.

The typical tensile specimen was aged at 100 °C for up to 48 hours after machining, as AWS permits for hydrogen removal. The KISWEL English catalogue gives an example weld metal with about FN 10 and 85 J at -20 °C; treat these figures as typical, not guaranteed.

Remove slag fully between passes, because lime-titania slag left in the joint can cause inclusions. Keep the joint free of carbon steel contamination from grinding discs and wire brushes used on mild steel, which would reduce corrosion resistance at the surface. Pickling and passivation after welding restore the passive film where the code or service calls for it. For joints that must be welded vertical-up, or where a flux-cored wire is not practical, a 308L stick electrode or a gas-shielded E308LT1 wire is the usual alternative.

Typical values quoted on this page are example test results from the manufacturer and are not guaranteed; the AWS minimums are the figures that apply for qualification and acceptance.

About brand

KISWEL is a South Korean manufacturer that has focused solely on welding consumables since the 1970s. KISWEL Co., Ltd. is headquartered in Seoul with two manufacturing plants and an R&D center in Korea. Its range covers covered electrodes, solid wires, flux-cored wires and submerged arc consumables.

KISWEL welding consumables

The product program spans mild steel and high-tensile solid MIG/MAG wires, heat-resistant and low-temperature wires, rutile and metal-cored flux-cored wires, stainless and nickel-base fillers, and wire-and-flux combinations for submerged arc welding. Outside Korea the company operates manufacturing plants in the U.S., Malaysia and China.

Ordering KISWEL wire and electrodes: what we need

Give the product name, for example KC-28, and the AWS or EN ISO classification your procedure calls for. Add the diameter, the spool or package type and weight, and the shielding gas you weld with. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, checks the requested grade against the KISWEL datasheet and can provide the datasheet and the mill certificates issued with the order on request.
