KISWEL K-NGS E71T-GS Self-Shielded Flux-Cored Wire

Description

Gasless flux-cored wire for outdoor fabrication

The KISWEL K-NGS is a self-shielded flux-cored wire for welding 490 MPa high tensile steel without an external shielding gas. Because no gas cylinder or gas shroud is needed, it is intended for outdoor work where wind would disturb a gas-shielded arc. KISWEL lists general fabrication and structural work that does not require impact properties as typical applications.

The manufacturer describes good arc stability, low spatter, high efficiency, a good bead shape and easy slag removal. The wire runs on DC electrode negative.

Where a GS-type wire fits, and where it does not

The datasheet lists suitable base metals including ASTM A36, A109, A283 grades A to D, A284 C and D, A285 grades A to C, A288 grade 1, A372 type I, A500 and A501. These are general structural, sheet and tube grades. The “G” and “Z” in the classifications mean that no impact requirement is specified, so K-NGS is not the wire for joints where a Charpy value is called for in the design code.

Aluminium is used as a deoxidiser and nitride former in self-shielded wires, which is why the typical deposit shows about 1.2% Al. This chemistry is normal for the type but is one reason self-shielded wires are generally kept to non-critical structural work.

KISWEL notes that self-shielded wire generates more fume than titania-type gas-shielded wire and recommends ventilation in confined spaces. Check that the welding power source and feeder can run DCEN and that drive rolls suit tubular wire.

Self-shielded wires are also sensitive to electrical stick-out, which affects both arc stability and the protection given by the flux. Keep the stick-out constant along the joint, follow the voltage window for the wire size, and remove slag fully between passes in multi-pass welds.

The typical values in the table are example test results; for qualification and design, use the classification minimums.

For productivity planning, note that the larger 1.6 mm wire runs at two to three times the current of the 0.9 mm size in the flat position, so it suits heavier fillets on plate, while the smaller sizes are easier to control on thin sections and in vertical-up work.

About brand

KISWEL is a South Korean manufacturer that has focused solely on welding consumables since the 1970s. KISWEL Co., Ltd. is headquartered in Seoul with two manufacturing plants and an R&D center in Korea. Its range covers covered electrodes, solid wires, flux-cored wires and submerged arc consumables.

KISWEL welding consumables

The product program spans mild steel and high-tensile solid MIG/MAG wires, heat-resistant and low-temperature wires, rutile and metal-cored flux-cored wires, stainless and nickel-base fillers, and wire-and-flux combinations for submerged arc welding. Outside Korea the company operates manufacturing plants in the U.S., Malaysia and China.

Ordering KISWEL wire and electrodes: what we need

Give the product name, for example KC-28, and the AWS or EN ISO classification your procedure calls for. Add the diameter, the spool or package type and weight, and the shielding gas you weld with. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, checks the requested grade against the KISWEL datasheet and can provide the datasheet and the mill certificates issued with the order on request.
