Hyundai Welding S-6010.D E6010 Cellulosic Pipeline Electrode Supplied by Seven Star LLC

Cellulosic Pipeline Electrodes

Cellulosic pipeline electrodes are stick electrodes with a high-cellulose coating, made for root, hot, fill and cap passes on line pipe welded vertical-down. Seven Star LLC supplies cellulosic electrodes in Oman from Hyundai Welding and Ador Welding, in the three classes pipeline contractors ask for most: E6010, E7010-P1 and E8010-P1. The coating burns to a gas shield with only a thin slag, giving the digging, deeply penetrating arc that stovepipe welding depends on.

E6010, E7010-P1 and E8010-P1: which grade for which pass

E6010 is classified in AWS A5.1 and is widely used for the root pass, including on higher-strength line pipe. E7010-P1 and E8010-P1 come under AWS A5.5, where the P1 suffix marks electrodes intended for pipeline welding. They are used for hot, fill and cap passes where the weld metal has to match the strength of the pipe. The electrode for each pass is fixed by the procedure qualified to API 1104 or to the pipeline owner’s specification.

Handling cellulosic electrodes on site

These electrodes need a certain amount of moisture in the coating to work properly. They must not be baked or kept in holding ovens. Store them in the original sealed tins, out of direct sun, and open one tin at a time. Electrodes that have dried out lose arc force and tend to give porosity. Weld metal hydrogen is high by nature with this coating type, so procedures control preheat and the time between root and hot pass. The power source also matters: a DC machine or engine-driven welder with an arc characteristic suited to cellulosic electrodes is required.

What to send with a pipeline electrode inquiry

Send the AWS classification, diameter, quantity, the pipe grade and wall thickness, and which passes the electrode is for. State the certificate type, and for GCC pipeline projects, any approved manufacturer list from the client.

What to include in your inquiry

These details let us quote the right item the first time.

  • AWS or EN classification
  • Diameter
  • Base material to be welded
  • Packaging (spool, drum, kg) and quantity
  • Approvals or certificates required

Missing some of them? Send what you have. A nameplate photo or an old part number is enough to start.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why must cellulosic electrodes not be dried in an oven?
The cellulose coating is formulated with a small moisture content that helps generate the gas shield and the forceful arc. Baking drives this moisture out and chars the coating, which leads to an unstable arc, poor penetration and porosity. Keep the electrodes in their sealed tins at normal store temperature and use opened tins promptly instead of heating them.
Can E6010 be used for the root pass on X65 or X70 pipe?
It often is. Many qualified procedures run an E6010 root on higher-grade pipe because the root is a small part of the joint and a softer, more ductile root bead resists cracking, with E7010-P1 or E8010-P1 used for the following passes. Whether this is permitted depends on the project specification and the procedure qualification results.
What kind of welding machine do cellulosic electrodes need?
They run on DC and need a power source with enough arc voltage and a suitable drooping characteristic to keep the arc from snuffing out. Not every small inverter can do this. Look for a machine or engine-driven welder that the manufacturer states is suitable for cellulosic electrodes, often through a dedicated arc setting. Check polarity for each pass on the electrode datasheet.
When do pipeline specifications ask for low-hydrogen electrodes instead of cellulosic ones?
Cellulosic electrodes deposit weld metal with high hydrogen, and the cracking risk rises with pipe strength, wall thickness and restraint. For that reason some specifications limit cellulosic electrodes to the root and hot pass, or exclude them for sour service and high-grade pipe, and require low-hydrogen vertical-down electrodes or mechanized processes for the remaining passes.
What should a quotation request for cellulosic electrodes contain?
The classification (E6010, E7010-P1 or E8010-P1), diameter, quantity in kilograms or tins, and the certificate type required. Tell us the pipe grade, wall thickness and the pass each size is for, plus the brand named in your procedure if there is one. With that we can check the offer against the manufacturer datasheet before quoting.
