Elga Megafil 710 M E70C-6M Seamless Metal-Cored Wire

Description

Seamless metal-cored wire for low-hydrogen carbon steel welding

The Elga Megafil 710 M is a gas-shielded, seamless metal-cored wire classified AWS A5.18 E70C-6M and EN ISO 17632-A T 46 6 M M21 1. It is made for welding non-alloy and fine-grain steels with 75 to 85% argon in carbon dioxide, and Elga also lists 100% CO2 as a shielding option. Typical applications named on the data sheet are automatic and mechanised welding, steel and offshore structures, pipelines, vessels, general fabrication and heavy equipment.

Base materials and typical uses

Elga gives example base-material groups for the wire: shipbuilding steels A, B, D and AH32 to EH36; unalloyed structural steels up to 355 MPa such as S185 to S355 and A106 Gr.B; boiler steels P235GH to P355GH; pipe steels up to P460NL2 and L445MB; fine-grain structural steels S235 to S460QL1; and API X42 to X60. The sheet adds that this list is not complete and that final selection should follow the strength and toughness requirements of the job.

What seamless and metal-cored mean in practice

A metal-cored wire has a metal powder fill instead of the slag-forming flux of a rutile flux-cored wire, so it leaves virtually no slag coverage and reduces clean-up time. Because it has no seam, the wire does not absorb moisture through the join, which is why Elga states that no re-drying is needed and why the diffusible hydrogen stays under 3 ml per 100 g. The data sheet also highlights good re-ignition, gap bridging for root welding without backing, and suitability for robot applications.

Spray and short-arc transfer both work with this grade. For related carbon steel wires in our range see the Flux-Cored Welding Wire category.

About brand

Elga is a Swedish brand of welding consumables, started in 1938 in Gothenburg when engineer Carl Alfredson founded AB El & Gassvetsning. Elga produced its first coated electrodes in the 1940s and introduced the Cromarod range of stainless steel electrodes in the 1980s. Since 2000 the brand has been part of Illinois Tool Works (ITW), and it is made by ITW Welding AB in Partille, Sweden.

Elga product ranges

The Cromarod family covers covered electrodes for stainless, duplex and nickel-base work, with Cromamig and Cromatig solid wires and Cromacore flux-cored wires alongside it. For carbon and low-alloy steel, the P 48M basic electrode is a low hydrogen type for high strength low alloy steel. Elga also offers seamless cored wires.

Ordering Elga consumables: what we need

State the exact product name, for example Cromarod Duplex, the classification your procedure specifies, the diameter and length of the electrode or the wire diameter and spool, and the quantity. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, checks the grade against the Elga product data sheet and can provide the data sheet and the certificates issued with the order on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the classification of Elga Megafil 710 M?
AWS A5.18 E70C-6M and EN ISO 17632-A T 46 6 M M21 1.
