Kobelco MX-A70C6SA E70C-6M Mild Steel Metal-Cored Wire
Description
High-deposition metal-cored wire for structural steel fabrication
The Kobelco MX-A70C6SA is a 70 ksi class mild steel metal-cored wire, classified AWS A5.18 E70C-6M, for flat and horizontal welding with 75 to 95% argon, balance CO2 mixed gas. Kobelco developed it for higher deposition rates than conventional solid wire in heavy industrial work, with a low-fume, low-spatter formulation. The bead is flat and smooth even on plate with mill scale, which is why Kobelco recommends it for general fabrication and structural steel, including AWS D1.8 seismic applications.
A metal-cored wire has a tubular sheath filled mainly with metal powder rather than slag-forming flux, so it deposits like a solid wire with little slag to remove between passes.

Welding conditions and deposition
The brochure gives approximate settings for each size. For the 0.045 in wire the range is 120 to 260 A at 20 to 33 V, giving 3.3 to 9.7 lb/h, with 3/4 in stick-out. For the 0.052 in wire it is 160 to 380 A at 20 to 38 V, giving 4.4 to 17.4 lb/h, with a stick-out of 0.79 to 1 in. These values vary with cable length and the welding setup, so use them as a starting point and qualify the procedure.
Selecting a metal-cored wire for structural work
Metal-cored wires suit mechanized and semi-automatic fillet and groove welding of beams, plate girders and heavy sections where deposition rate matters, and where little cleaning between passes saves time. Because the wire is limited to flat and horizontal positions, vertical and overhead joints are better welded with a rutile flux-cored wire such as the Kobelco DW-50. Other options are in the flux-cored welding wire category.
When D1.8 seismic work is specified, check the project requirements for the heat input range, preheat and impact temperature, because the brochure values show how toughness changes between the low and high heat input tests.

About brand
Kobelco is the brand name used by Kobe Steel, founded in 1905 in Kobe, Japan, on its steel, welding and machinery products. In process plants the name is seen on screw, reciprocating and centrifugal compressors, and in fabrication shops on welding consumables. Seven Star LLC lists Kobelco compressor spare parts and welding wire and supplies them to operators in Oman.
Kobelco parts and consumables listed here
Three compressor items are listed: the VGP31649#01 rotor assembly for the third and fourth stage, a lubricator assembly and a low level alarm pump assembly. These are machine-specific spares. The fourth item is Kobelco DW-50, a rutile flux-cored welding wire for carbon steel that the manufacturer classifies as AWS A5.20 E71T-1C/1M.
Ordering Kobelco spare parts: what we need
Compressor spares are identified through the machine, not through a catalog. Send the compressor model and serial number from the nameplate, the Kobelco part number, and the item number and drawing number from the parts list in your manual. A photo of the old part and its markings helps. For Kobelco welding wire, send the trade name, the AWS classification your procedure calls for, the wire diameter, spool weight and quantity. We handle Kobelco compressor parts inquiries from across the GCC and check every part number against the manufacturer documentation.
