Kjellberg AQUAWELD Wet Underwater Welding Stick Electrode

Description

A rutile-basic electrode for manual wet underwater welding

The Kjellberg AQUAWELD is a rutile-basic coated special-purpose electrode with a conducting and water-repellent coating for manual wet underwater welding. Kjellberg lists it for assembly and repair welding in up to 20 m of water depth, for offshore and harbour construction, shipbuilding and steel hydraulic engineering. The covered electrode has been tested by GSI and approved as a welding filler material to DVS 1801 up to a water depth of 10 metres.

Limits that the data sheet states

The electrode is not suitable for welding higher-strength steels, because these materials can be subject to cracking from underwater welding. The carbon equivalent formula given is CEV = C + Mn/6 + (Cr+Mo+V)/5 + (Ni+Cu)/15, in per cent, and the base material must stay at or below 0.4 %. Kjellberg also stresses that high-quality welds require appropriate weld preparation, well-trained personnel and compliance with recognised standards of good practice.

Handling

AQUAWELD is supplied for wet welding, so the electrode stays in its protective packaging until use and welding follows the diver-welder procedure and safety rules of the project. A single size is listed: 3.25 mm diameter and 350 mm long at 140 to 190 A.

Documents and quotation

The attached Kjellberg AQUAWELD data sheet gives the data listed on this page. For a quotation please send the diameter and length, quantity and packaging, the base material and the welding procedure it is to be used in. A Kjellberg flyer on AQUAWELD exists on the Kjellberg site; the attached document is the data sheet. Related items are listed under Welding Electrodes.

About brand

Kjellberg Finsterwalde is a German maker of plasma cutting systems, welding equipment and welding electrodes. The company was established on 4 April 1922 in Finsterwalde, Brandenburg, as Kjellberg Elektro-Maschinen GmbH, at the suggestion of Swedish engineer Oscar Kjellberg, who in 1908 received a German patent for the coated welding electrode. Its first product, a welding generator, followed in 1923. The group is owned by the Kjellberg Foundation.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Kjellberg plasma systems and electrodes for fabricators and welding shops in Oman and the GCC.

Milestones

  • 1908: Oscar Kjellberg is granted a German patent for the coated welding electrode.
  • 1922: Kjellberg Elektro-Maschinen GmbH is established in Finsterwalde.
  • 1923: The first Finsterwalde welding generator is presented.

Kjellberg product series

Air plasma cutting systems include the CUTFIRE 70, 90, 105 and 125 for manual and mechanised cutting, and the K 200 for mechanised cutting.

Stick electrodes include the CROMO 1B E8018-B2 creep-resistant electrode, the FINOX 182 ENiCrFe-3 nickel-base electrode and the AQUAWELD wet underwater welding electrode.

Air plasma systems cut with compressed air as the plasma gas, and the cutting capacity rises with output current from the CUTFIRE 70 to the CUTFIRE 125. Mechanised systems such as the K 200 are used on CNC cutting tables for repeatable cut quality on thicker plate.

Where Kjellberg products are used

Plate and sheet cutting in fabrication shops, CNC cutting tables, welding of creep-resistant and nickel alloy steels, and underwater repair welding.
