Operating Principle
The MEDC LD15 uses a low-current-consumption LED array to generate a high-intensity flash without the power draw or heat generation associated with older strobe or filament beacon technology, delivering effective candela outputs from 41 cd (steady, blue lens) up to 128 cd (60 fpm, clear lens) depending on lens colour and selected flash rate. Five user-selectable functions – steady, 60 fpm, 80 fpm, 120 fpm, and double flash – are configurable both locally at the unit and remotely, allowing a single beacon model to serve multiple alarm priority levels across a facility’s fire and gas or process alarm philosophy simply by changing the flash pattern rather than swapping hardware.
On the MEDC LD15, because the entire LED driver and array are sealed within the flameproof (Ex d) glass reinforced polyester enclosure, the LD15 contains any internal ignition source while still transmitting a bright, clearly visible signal through its borosilicate glass lens. Engineering Design of the MEDC LD15
