01How do I identify a Schmersal switch for replacement?
Every Schmersal device carries a type designation on the housing, for example US 432Y-M20, and usually a separate article number. The designation encodes the series, the contact configuration and the cable entry, here an M20 thread. Give both numbers if you can. Where the print is worn, send photos and the dimensions of the housing and actuator.
02Does Schmersal make switches for hazardous areas?
Yes. Schmersal lists a separate group of devices for Ex zones, covering position switches, safety switches and non-contact safety sensors for explosive gas and dust atmospheres. These carry their own marking and are not the same parts as the standard versions, so quote the complete designation including the Ex prefix or suffix from the label.
03What do I need to check when replacing a safety switch on a guard door?
Check the switch type, the matching actuator or coded target, the number of normally closed and normally open contacts, and the safety relay or controller it is wired to. The safety function was validated with a specific device, so a different type has to be assessed by the person responsible for the machine before it is fitted.
04What is a Schmersal AZM201 solenoid interlock?
The AZM201 is a guard locking device that keeps a machine door closed until the hazardous motion has stopped. It uses a coded actuator and solenoid lock and reaches PL e for safety monitoring.
