JUMO dicoTEMP 100 Smart Tube Thermowell with Pt100

Description

Thermowell that combines a platinum sensor with a mechanical thermometer

The JUMO dicoTEMP 100 (type 608740) is a smart tube for diverse temperature measurement. It is a thermowell that takes a thermostat or dial thermometer and, in the same tube, a platinum-chip temperature sensor. Two different measuring principles, one electrical and one mechanical, therefore work at only one measuring point.

Diverse measurement means that each principle reacts differently to external interference, which gives more process reliability. The resistance signal of the Pt100 or Pt1000 can be converted into an analog or digital signal through a transmitter, so the same point serves a local mechanical reading and a control system value.

Plants can keep the thermostats and dial thermometers they already own at that point and extend them with electrical temperature measurement, which reduces planning and installation work because only one measuring point is needed.

The thermowell is also well suited to retrofit work. The existing dial thermometer or thermostat is pushed into the tube, the sensor wires leave through the M12 plug, and the mechanical device keeps its role as a local indicator or limiter.

Fitting a thermostat or dial thermometer

The fastening version must match the device you want to insert. The capillary line version takes a probe of 6 or 8 mm with a capillary from 1.0 to 2.2 mm. The coupling version suits an immersion tube of 8 mm. The threaded fitting version takes smooth immersion tubes of 6, 8 and 10 mm outside diameter.

Length limits are given in the data sheet: for the capillary version the probe length LF must not exceed EL minus 5 mm, and for the coupling version LK must not exceed EL plus 24 mm. For process connection TA24, preset lengths are extended by 20 mm. Check these limits against the length of your existing thermostat before ordering.

Extra codes add a 3.1 inspection certificate for the material according to DIN EN 10204 (374) and a DAkkS calibration specified in plain text (774).

Pt1000 gives a higher resistance and therefore less lead resistance influence, while four-wire connection removes lead resistance altogether. Choose tolerance class AA only where the process truly needs it, and request a DAkkS calibration (extra code 774) if you need traceable values.

The table of permitted pressure in the data sheet lists values from 74 bar for the 11 mm well at 100 °C down to 39 bar for the 15 mm well at 260 °C, but these values are not valid for this version because the process connection is intended for pressureless use. Plan the installation point accordingly.

Because the sensor is a platinum element in a four-wire circuit, the connection to an electronic transmitter or an input card does not depend on lead resistance. Pt1000 is often chosen for long leads, while Pt100 matches many existing input cards, so match the choice to the electronics you already own.

Applications and response

The smart tube is aimed at liquid and gaseous media where a plant wants a mechanical indication or limit and an electrical signal from the same point, for example heating circuits, hot water tanks, process lines and machines. With the stated response data, a 11 mm well reaches 63 percent of a step in about 6 seconds in water moving at 0.4 m/s and in about 95 seconds in air moving at 3 m/s.

A larger well diameter is slower: in water the 15 mm version needs 14 seconds for 63 percent. Choose the smallest diameter that fits the device to be inserted when response time matters. Installation is in any position.

The mating M12 connector must be fitted to reach IP66, IP67 and IP69, and the protection type applies with the combination device mounted. A ready-wired cable with a four-pole M12 socket is a practical way to connect to a transmitter or an input card.

About brand

JUMO is the German maker of temperature sensors, process controllers, pressure transmitters and liquid analysis instruments. Moritz Kurt Juchheim founded it in Fulda in 1948 as M. K. Juchheim KG, making glass thermometers with six employees. The name JUMO comes from the founder's name. It is still a family company headquartered in Fulda, and the parent company has been called JUMO GmbH & Co. KG since 2003.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list JUMO RTD and thermocouple probes, thermowells, transmitters, controllers, recorders and water analysis instruments, and supply them to process plants, OEMs, HVAC contractors and water utilities in Oman and the GCC by type number.

Choosing a temperature sensor starts with the range and accuracy. A Pt100 RTD is accurate and stable from about -200 to 600 °C and is the usual choice in process plants. A thermocouple (type K or J, for example) covers much higher temperatures and responds faster but is less accurate. The wiring also matters: a 3-wire or 4-wire Pt100 connection cancels the resistance of the cable, while a 2-wire connection adds an error that grows with cable length. That is why a head-mounted transmitter is often fitted close to the sensor.

Where JUMO products are used

In Oman and the GCC, JUMO sensors and controllers are used in oil and gas and chemical plants, food and beverage production, plastics and metal heat treatment, HVAC and district cooling, water and wastewater treatment, swimming pools and marine applications.

Ordering JUMO products: what we need

Send the JUMO type number and the full order code from the label (for example 902020/10-...). For probes, add the sensor type (Pt100, Pt1000, type K or J), the number of wires, the insertion length and diameter, and the process connection. For controllers, add the input, outputs and supply voltage.
