E2S GNExS1F Explosion-Proof Alarm Horn Sounder
Overview
The E2S GNExS1F is an IECEx and ATEX certified explosion-proof alarm horn sounder with a re-entrant flare horn, housed in a robust GRP (glass reinforced polyester) enclosure for Zone 1 and Zone 2 gas hazardous areas. It delivers a maximum sound pressure level of 115 dB(A) at 1 metre, offers 64 selectable alarm tones and four remotely triggered alarm stages, and uses Class D amplification to reach a high output at a modest operating current. For fire and gas, process alarm and general evacuation duty, the E2S GNExS1F gives engineers one audible device that can be used across an entire facility.
Seven Star LLC supplies the E2S GNExS1F to upstream, midstream and downstream operators, utilities and EPC contractors in Oman and the wider GCC. We act as a trusted supplier for E2S warning signals, offering engineering support in Muscat, and our team checks tone selection, stage wiring and supply voltage against your alarm philosophy so that the sounders can be commissioned without rework in the field.
Operating Principle
Inside the E2S GNExS1F, a tone generator drives a Class D amplifier that feeds a compression driver coupled to the re-entrant flare horn. The folded horn path increases acoustic efficiency, which is why the unit reaches 115 dB(A) at 1 m (106 dB(A) at 3 m) maximum and 110 dB(A) nominal, with an effective range quoted by E2S at 125 m (410 ft) at 1 kHz. Volume is adjustable across the full range, so the same model can be used in a quiet control building or close to a noisy compressor.
The 64 tones include UKOOA and PFEER compliant signals such as the 1000 Hz continuous toxic gas tone and the 1200/500 Hz sweeping prepare-to-abandon tone, as well as DIN, NF, ISO 8201, AS4428 and IMO patterns. Four alarm stages can be selected remotely: on DC versions by positive or negative line switching, on AC versions with stage 1 active at power-on and stages 2 to 4 switched by volt-free contacts. Several sounders on the same circuit synchronise automatically, so a field of horns plays the same tone in step instead of an irregular mix.
Engineering Design of the E2S GNExS1F
The E2S GNExS1F enclosure is UV-stable GRP in natural red, with a threaded flameproof joint, an internal volume below 2 litres and an IP66 rating to EN 60529. Weight is about 3.0 kg for the DC model and 3.2 kg for the AC model. A ratchet-adjustable A4 316 stainless steel bracket lets the installer aim the horn towards the area to be covered, and the corrosion-proof body does not rely on paint to resist salt spray, hydrocarbon vapours or desert UV.
Wiring is through two M20 x 1.5 mm cable entries with a stopping plug, with adaptors available for 1/2″ NPT, 3/4″ NPT and M25 glands. The terminals are pluggable and duplicated, accepting 0.5 to 2.5 mm² conductors, which makes loop-through wiring and later maintenance quicker because the field cabling can stay connected while the sounder module is removed. A blocking diode supports reverse polarity monitoring, and an end-of-line resistor or diode can be fitted for supervised circuits. The DC model accepts 10–60 V DC and the AC model 100–260 V AC.
Key Features
E2S lists the following practical advantages for the E2S GNExS1F:
- Maximum output of 115 dB(A) at 1 m from a re-entrant flare horn driven by an efficient Class D amplifier.
- A choice of 64 alarm tones, including UKOOA and PFEER signals, with custom tone software available on request.
- Four remotely selectable alarm stages, switched by positive or negative line on DC versions.
- Automatic synchronisation across multiple sounders on the same alarm system.
- Seven stage control configurations on DC models to suit different panel output and line monitoring schemes.
- Listing to UL 464 (Ed 11) and CAN/ULC-S525 (Ed 5) for audible signalling devices used in fire alarm systems.
- SIL1 and SIL2 Route 2H to IEC 61508 (2010) as standard, with an optional diagnostic module for SIL2 Route 1H.
- A corrosion-proof GRP body, a ratchet-adjustable 316 stainless steel bracket and pluggable duplicated terminals.
Industrial Applications
Typical installations for the E2S GNExS1F include wellhead areas, gas gathering and compression stations, separation and processing trains, refinery units, tank farms, loading jetties and chemical plants, where a loud, distinctive tone has to cut through machinery noise. Because each of the four stages can carry a different tone, one E2S GNExS1F can announce a fire alarm, a toxic gas release, a general alarm and an all-clear without additional devices. Offshore and coastal sites benefit from the GRP construction, which does not corrode in marine atmospheres.
Across Oman the sounder suits oil and gas assets in the interior, the industrial estates of Sohar and Salalah, the Duqm special economic zone, power and desalination plants and large utilities. Seven Star LLC supports clients in Muscat and throughout the GCC with tone schedules, stage mapping and quantity take-offs, and supplies the E2S GNExS1F together with matching GNEx beacons and accessories for complete audible and visual alarm points.

E2S hazardous-area families
E2S groups its Ex signals by family. GNEx and BEx are both for Zone 1 and Zone 21, and the STEx family covers the same zones. D1x and D2x are the lines for Class/Division sites, and the IS family is intrinsically safe for Zone 0. The listed items show the pattern: GNExS1F is an alarm horn sounder, GNExB2X10 a xenon strobe beacon and BExCS110-05 a combined sounder and beacon.Ordering E2S signals: what we need
An E2S part number is completed by suffixes for supply voltage, lens color, cable entries and options, so send the whole code from the label. For a new requirement give the area classification, gas group and temperature class, voltage, lens color, entry thread, and the approval your project needs. Many GCC projects name IECEx or ATEX in the specification.Browse E2S products by category: Fire & Gas Detector.
