Danfoss 180B3043 APP 1.5 Compact Seawater RO Pump
Description
Danfoss 180B3043 APP 1.5 compact seawater pump
The Danfoss 180B3043 is the APP 1.5, the entry size of the APP 1.5–3.5 group of compact axial piston pumps for seawater and brackish-water reverse osmosis. Its displacement is 9.31 cm³ per revolution, its maximum continuous outlet pressure is 83 bar g, and it weighs only 8.6 kg dry in a duplex stainless steel body with NBR seals. Water is the lubricant, so there is no oil to contaminate the permeate. Seven Star LLC supplies the 180B3043 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.
Where the larger APP 5.1–10.2 pumps are designed around 1500 rpm motors, the APP 1.5 is a small, fast pump: its speed range runs from 700 to 3450 rpm, so it pairs naturally with a 2-pole motor or a variable frequency drive. It also carries an integrated flushing valve, a feature the 5.1–10.2 group does not have.

Why a small APP suits compact RO systems
A 9.31 cm³ pump at 3000 rpm theoretically moves 28 l/min, or about 1.7 m³/h. The datasheet reports 0.79 m³/h at 1500 rpm at maximum pressure, which is 13 l/min against 14 l/min theoretical, a leakage loss of around 6 percent. That behaviour is typical of the axial piston design: output depends on speed and varies little with pressure, so a drive can set flow directly. A single APP 1.5 on a 1500 rpm motor serves a feed flow of under one cubic metre per hour, while at higher speed it can reach two or more times that.
Because the pump is small and light, it can sit on a compact skid or inside a marine or containerised water maker. The G 3/4 connections accept standard high-pressure hose fittings, and the integrated flushing valve lets the user fill and flush the system without a separate bypass line.
Place of 180B3043 in the 1.5 to 3.5 group
| Size | Code | Displacement cm³/rev | Flow m³/h at 1000 / 1500 rpm | Max speed rpm | Typical motor kW |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| APP 1.5 | 180B3043 | 9.31 | 0.53 / 0.79 | 3450 | 5.5 |
| APP 1.8 | 180B3044 | 10.04 | 0.57 / 0.86 | 3450 | 5.5 |
| APP 2.2 | 180B3045 | 12.52 | 0.73 / 1.09 | 3450 | 7.5 |
| APP 2.5 | 180B3046 | 15.35 | 0.90 / 1.34 | 3000 | 7.5 |
| APP 3.0 | 180B3030 | 17.70 | 1.02 / 1.54 | 3450 | 11 |
| APP 3.5 | 180B3032 | 20.54 | 1.19 / 1.79 | 3000 | 11 |
The 180B3043 is the smallest of these. Below it, the APP 0.6 to 1.0 pumps (for example 180B3037, the APP 0.8) cover even smaller flows; above it, the APP 5.1 to 10.2 pumps such as 180B3005 take over. All keep the same 83 bar upper pressure rating.
Selection and ordering checklist for APP 1.5
- Feed flow and recovery, calculated at the coldest and warmest water temperature expected.
- Operating pressure up to 83 bar g and the end-of-life membrane pressure margin.
- Fixed-speed or variable-frequency motor, with speed kept within 700 to 3450 rpm.
- Inlet pressure source: 0.5 to 5 bar g, with a booster pump if the intake is a long suction line.
- Standard 180B3043 or ATEX 180B3143.
- Hose or pipe fittings for the G 3/4 connections, and the flange, coupling and bell housing for the chosen motor.
Installation, commissioning and maintenance
Use a bell housing and flexible coupling and keep radial and axial load off the shaft. Fit flexible hoses, an inlet filter with a 10 µm absolute precision depth cartridge, a low-pressure relief valve and an inlet pressure monitoring switch. Because the pump runs at higher speed than larger models, noise and vibration need extra care: use dampers on the frame and avoid rigid pipe connections. The manufacturer expects up to 8000 hours between services when its conditions are met, with an annual inspection and a purpose-designed tool kit. When the pump will stand for more than a day, rotate it for about 10 seconds with permeate; opening the flushing valve alone does not rinse the internals.
Applications in Oman and the GCC for the 180B3043
Small seawater RO units for yachts and workboats in Muscat, remote coastal fishing and tourism sites, offshore platform lifeboat and utility water makers, laboratory-scale pilot plants and brackish-water polishing stages at industrial sites are where a pump this size appears. The ambient limit of 50 °C needs attention in engine rooms and unventilated containers during Omani summers.
Information to send with an RFQ for 180B3043
- Code 180B3043 and quantity, with ATEX requirement if any.
- Duty flow, pressure and the water type and temperature.
- Motor speed and frame, or the drive model that will control the pump.
- Hose and fitting standards for the connections.
- Need for service kits or tool kits.
Site conditions in Oman for the 180B3043
Pump selection in Oman has to account for the site, not only the duty point. Process liquids and cooling water can arrive warm in summer, which raises vapour pressure and reduces the available NPSH, so check the NPSH margin of the 180B3043 at the highest expected liquid temperature. Motors on outdoor skids also work in high ambient air, and their rating, enclosure and cooling should match that environment.
For hygienic and process plants in the Gulf, plan the spare parts that wear first, such as seals, O-rings and bearings, and keep the material certificates with the plant records. Sharing the fluid, temperature, flow, head and cleaning regime with the supplier at RFQ stage makes it easier to confirm that the 180B3043 is the right configuration before the order is placed.

About brand
Danfoss is the Danish engineering group that makes refrigeration and air-conditioning controls, heating components, variable speed drives and mobile hydraulics. Mads Clausen founded it on 1 September 1933 at his parents' farm in Nordborg on the island of Als, after making his first refrigeration expansion valve in 1932. Nordborg is still the group's headquarters, and Danfoss remains controlled by the Clausen family through the Bitten & Mads Clausen Foundation.

Choosing Danfoss products
For solenoid valves, check the operating principle. A direct-operated valve such as EV210B opens even at 0 bar differential pressure. A servo-operated valve such as EV220B needs a minimum differential (typically about 0.3 bar) to open, while an assisted-lift valve such as EV250B works from 0 bar. Coils are ordered separately, so the voltage on the coil (for example 230 V AC or 24 V DC) must match the control circuit. For drives, the VLT family is split by application: FC 51 Micro Drive for small machines, FC 102 HVAC Drive for fans and pumps in buildings, FC 202 AQUA Drive for water, and FC 302 AutomationDrive for demanding industrial duty.
Where Danfoss products are used
In Oman and the GCC, Danfoss drives run pumps, fans and compressors in district cooling plants, water and wastewater stations, desalination and building HVAC. Danfoss pressure switches, transmitters and solenoid valves are built into chillers, refrigeration plants, boilers and hydraulic systems, and AB-QM valves balance chilled-water circuits in large buildings.
