Alfa Laval LKH Prime UltraPure Self-Priming Pump
Description
Alfa Laval LKH Prime UltraPure self-priming pharma pump overview
The Alfa Laval LKH Prime UltraPure combines two ideas from the LKH family: the air-screw self-priming design of the LKH Prime and the high-purity, documented construction of the UltraPure portfolio. It is built for pharmaceutical liquids that contain air or gas, such as CIP fluids, and it can be cleaned in place, sterilised in place or cleaned manually. Seven Star LLC supplies the LKH Prime UltraPure in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.
The name is read in three parts: LKH for the hygienic centrifugal platform, Prime for self-priming through an air-screw, and UltraPure for the pharmaceutical specification with surface finish, seal and documentation upgrades.

How the LKH Prime UltraPure handles air and liquid
With air in the suction line, the turning air-screw builds a liquid ring inside an eccentric canister. The eccentricity opens an air chamber between the ring and the screw, and the chamber separates into pockets between the screw vanes. Those pockets are driven into the first stage of the impeller and out through the discharge.
A re-circulation pipe returns liquid from the discharge to the canister to keep the ring formed. When air stops arriving, the canister and loop fill with liquid, and the pump works as a normal centrifugal pump. The impeller is shared with the LKH Prime range and can be trimmed to match the application, while the air-screw, casing, re-circulation pipe and cover are the dedicated parts.
The pump is described as quiet-running, which suits tank emptying and CIP return where liquid ring pumps are noisy. The wetted surfaces can be finished down to Ra ≤ 0.4 µm to reduce contamination risk and increase yield.
Where the LKH Prime UltraPure fits in the LKH family
Choose this pump when a pharmaceutical line needs both air handling and documented purity. Without air handling, the LKH UltraPure is the straightforward option. Without a pharmaceutical specification, the LKH Prime is lighter on both finish and paperwork. Dedicated LKH variants for evaporation (LKH Evap), high inlet pressure (LKHPF) and potentially explosive areas (LKHex) are separate pumps and not combined with the air-screw design.
Selecting and ordering the LKH Prime UltraPure
- Flow and head at the duty point, plus the supply frequency.
- Gas or air content on the suction side, especially for CIP return.
- Surface finish: 0.8, 0.5 or electropolished 0.4 µm Ra.
- Elastomer: FPM or EPDM, matched to the product and the cleaning media.
- Single or double mechanical seal.
- Whether hydrostatic testing with a certificate is required.
- Motor: standard or increased-safety / flameproof.
- Documentation scope for your validation plan.
Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the LKH Prime UltraPure
Fill the pump with liquid before first start so the liquid ring forms at once. Dry running is the main hazard for the SiC seal faces. Keep suction piping short and air-tight, and use the two drain connections when the process requires complete draining between batches.
Seals are front-loading and the stationary and rotating faces are changed as a set. Keep the material certificates and Q-doc records with the equipment, and when replacing wetted parts log the new certificate numbers so traceability stays intact. Hydrostatic test certificates, if ordered, should be filed with the original pump records.
Spares and handling for the LKH Prime UltraPure
Plan spares around the parts that wear or define purity: the SiC seal faces, the O-rings in the chosen elastomer, and the dedicated air-screw group. Because the air-screw is machined from solid bar and the wetted surface is tightly specified, avoid abrasive cleaning tools and do not mix parts from another finish grade into the pump. When ordering replacements, quote the serial number and the surface finish and elastomer so the correct certified component is identified. Store spares sealed and clean, and keep them with their certificates.
After maintenance, repeat the checks your validation procedure requires, for example leak testing and a run with water, before returning the pump to product service.
Typical applications in Oman and the GCC
The target market is the pharmaceutical industry, where CIP skids and tank-emptying duties produce air-laden liquid. In the GCC that suits injectable and oral-dose manufacturers, biotechnology pilot plants and high-spec personal-care plants. Air-conditioned production halls reduce the environmental stress, but utility rooms and outdoor skids still see high temperature and dust, so motor and terminal enclosure choices deserve attention.

About brand
Alfa Laval is a Swedish engineering group built on three technologies: heat transfer, separation and fluid handling. Gustaf de Laval and Oscar Lamm founded the company in Stockholm in 1883 as AB Separator to make de Laval's continuous milk separator; the name Alfa-Laval was adopted in 1963. The company built its first heat exchanger in 1938, and today its plate heat exchangers, separators, pumps and valves are used in energy, marine, food, water and process industries. Group headquarters are in Lund, Sweden.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing Alfa Laval gasketed, fusion-bonded and welded plate heat exchangers and hygienic pumps for buyers in Oman and the GCC. Units and spare plates or gaskets are matched from the serial number on the frame nameplate.

Where Alfa Laval equipment is used
In Oman and the GCC, Alfa Laval plate heat exchangers are common in district cooling plants, HVAC systems, power stations, desalination, oil and gas processing, refineries and marine engine rooms. Gasketed units suit duties that need regular cleaning or later capacity changes, while welded and fusion-bonded units handle higher pressures, temperatures and media that gaskets cannot. Hygienic LKH pumps serve dairy, juice and beverage plants.
Ordering Alfa Laval equipment: what we need
For spare plates and gaskets, send the serial number and model from the frame nameplate. Alfa Laval keeps the build record, which defines the plate material, pattern and gasket type for each position. For a new heat exchanger add both fluids, flow rates, inlet and outlet temperatures, allowed pressure drop, design pressure and temperature, and connection standard. For an LKH pump send the model, size, impeller diameter, motor data and duty point.
