Gorman-Rupp Tankleenor Unit 608 Petroleum Tank Cleaning System
Description
The Gorman-Rupp Tankleenor Unit 608 is a lightweight, wheel-mounted system that cleans petroleum storage tanks without taking the tank out of service. Designed for one-man operation and easy moving from job to job, it removes water, rust, microbial growth and gel precipitates that collect in tanks that are believed to be free of moisture and still degrade the stored fuel.
How the Tankleenor works
Operating liquid drawn from a contaminant tank circulates through the pump and creates a vacuum at a venturi-type eductor. That vacuum draws moisture and contaminants from the storage tank through the cleanout hose and back to the eductor, where they mix with the operating liquid and are carried to the contaminant tank. Recirculation does not contaminate the tank, a hand-operated valve enables backflushing, and a detachable reel assembly stores the connector hose, controls its direction and travel, and includes a sight tube to locate pockets of contamination.

What is included
The Tankleenor comes complete: the O Series pump with explosion-proof motor, reel and hose assembly, connector hose, suction and discharge hoses, guide tube and ground wire. Quick-connect couplers on the discharge and suction ports speed hose connection. The pump is close-coupled to the motor and mounted on a cart with wheels.
Use in fuel storage and depots
Fuel depots, airport fuel farms, generator sites and bulk plants in the Gulf keep diesel in tanks for long periods in heat, which promotes water condensation and microbial growth. A cleaning unit that works through a tank opening and avoids emptying the tank fits that routine maintenance. The brochure gives no standards for the electrical equipment beyond the Class 1, Group D explosion-proof motor description, so any hazardous-area certification should be requested from the manufacturer for the local zone system.
Duty point in other units (derived)
Unit conversions below are calculated from the printed maximum values and are not manufacturer statements.
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Maximum capacity | 124 GPM = 8 lps = 29 m3/h (lps x 3.6) |
| Maximum head | 57 ft = 17 m = about 1.7 bar of water column |
| Capacity x head (derived) | about 490 m4/h |
Because the system recirculates its own operating liquid, no product is introduced into the tank during cleaning, and the contaminant tank is where removed water and sludge end up. Hoses, couplers and the guide tube are part of the kit, so the main items to confirm are local electrical supply, tank opening size and how the removed contaminants will be disposed of under site rules.
Ordering information and support
The brochure states that every Gorman-Rupp pump is supported with operation and maintenance manuals including parts lists, performance curves and outline drawings, and that parts are available quickly through the supplier network. For the Tankleenor, request the supply voltage and frequency (the 50 Hz explosion-proof motor option is listed separately), the elastomer choice between Viton and Buna, and any extra hose length you need at the tank.
The Tankleenor is not a general transfer pump; its purpose is cleaning, and the 124 GPM and 57 ft figures describe the O Series pump inside the kit. A larger transfer pump from the same manufacturer range is the right item for emptying tanks.
