Flowserve PVXM API 610 OH3 Vertical In-Line Process Pump

Description

Flowserve PVXM API 610 OH3 vertical in-line process pump

The Flowserve PVXM is a vertical in-line diffuser process pump built to API 610 / ISO 13709 type OH3 and BS 4082R. The pump hangs in the pipeline like a valve, so suction and discharge nozzles sit on the same centreline, and the driver sits on top of a rigid motor support head. This takes far less floor space than a horizontal overhung process pump with its baseplate.

Seven Star LLC supplies Flowserve PVXM pumps in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat. A product brochure is attached on this page. The PVXM is a range: size, materials and seal arrangement are chosen from your duty conditions, not from a single order code.

How the PVXM diffuser hydraulics work

Instead of a volute, the PVXM uses a stationary diffuser around the impeller. Diffusers distribute the discharge flow evenly around the full circumference, so radial hydraulic thrust on the shaft is virtually zero at any flow rate. Flowserve states that this gives vibration levels 20 percent lower than API 610 requires, along with lower noise at off-design points.

The diffusers are precision machined and interchangeable, and they can be tuned so the best efficiency point sits exactly on the duty point. The brochure describes minimum continuous flow at 10 to 20 percent of BEP and a continuously rising head curve toward shut-off. Because the casings are shared with the PVML (OH5) and PHL (OH2), a user can change the hydraulics later without altering the installation.

PVXM construction: bearing housing, shaft and motor support head

The OH3 design adds its own bearing housing, so the motor bearings do not carry pump loads. The frame range is limited to two bearing housings and bearing sets, and lubrication can be grease, oil mist or oil cascade for temperatures up to 250 °C. Upper and lower labyrinth bearing isolators are standard, with an option for Inpro-type isolators. A flexible disc spacer coupling and a coupling guard are included.

Feature What it provides
Stiff shaft Deflection at the seal faces far below the 0.050 mm (0.002 in) API requirement
Motor support head Tubular, registered fit, no spacer plates; isolates the pump from motor weight
Four-side access Easy inspection and back pull-out without disturbing casing or driver
Fan air cooling Standard for extreme operating temperatures (not needed for oil mist designs)
Wear rings Optional non-metallic rings; TMT and other coatings for abrasive service

Where the PVXM fits and related pumps

The PVXM complements the horizontal OH2 PHL and the vertical OH5 PVML, which share its hydraulics. For higher pressure or temperature duties than an overhung pump can handle, between-bearings designs such as the HED two-stage BB2 or the DMX multistage BB3 are the usual choices. It is also used with vertical double-casing pumps in the same plants.

Skid builders favour the PVXM because of its compact footprint and the rugged motor support head, which suits modularised construction.

Selection and ordering checklist for the PVXM

  • Process liquid, specific gravity, viscosity, vapour pressure and temperature
  • Rated flow, differential head and operating range, with 50 or 60 Hz supply
  • NPSH available and whether the suction box design is suitable
  • Flange rating and drilling (ASME, ISO or JIS)
  • API 610 material class, plus any sour-service requirement
  • Seal arrangement and plan, single or dual cartridge
  • Motor frame (NEMA C-face or IEC), power and speed
  • Bearing lubrication method: grease, oil mist or oil cascade

PVXM installation, commissioning and maintenance

Because the pump is supported by the pipework, check the allowable nozzle loads and make sure the line is supported adequately on both sides. Align the motor on its registered fit and verify rotation before coupling. Vent the casing fully and make sure the seal flush is established before start.

Routine work is straightforward thanks to the back pull-out arrangement: the rotating assembly leaves through the side openings of the motor support head, while the casing stays in the line. Keep spare mechanical seals, bearings, wear rings and diffuser-related parts, and quote the nameplate data when ordering.

PVXM applications in Oman and the GCC

The brochure lists petroleum refining, production and distribution, petrochemical and heavy-duty chemical processing, gas industry services, and water and general industry. In the Gulf, that means refinery side streams, condensate and hydrocarbon transfer, amine and chemical service, and offshore or onshore skid packages where plot space is tight.

High ambient temperature and humidity affect motor cooling and lubricant condition, so state the site conditions so that appropriate motor enclosure and bearing lubrication can be recommended.

FAQ

Questions about the Flowserve PVXM API 610 OH3 Vertical In-Line Process

Answers from our engineering team on installation, compatibility and integration.

01What does OH3 mean for the PVXM?
OH3 is the API 610 / ISO 13709 designation for a vertical in-line, overhung pump with its own bearing housing, mechanically sealed and flexibly coupled to the driver. The PVXM is a diffuser-type pump of this class and meets the standard together with BS 4082R.
02How many hydraulic selections are available?
The PVXM shares hydraulics with the PVML (OH5) and PHL (OH2). Ten casings in the family give a total of about 150 hydraulic combinations, because precision-machined diffuser channels can be customised so the best efficiency point matches your duty.
03What are the published limits?
Flows to 500 m3/h (2200 gpm), heads to 275 m (900 ft), pressures to 40 bar (600 psi). The product page gives temperatures from -100 C to 250 C and sizes from 1 in to 8 in. Flanges are ASME B16.5 Class 300 raised face, with ISO and JIS drilling available.
04Can the pump be serviced without removing it from the line?
Yes. The motor support head is open on four sides and designed for 100 percent back pull-out, so the rotating assembly can be removed without disturbing the casing or the driver. The complete pump can also be removed if needed.
05Which seal chambers does the PVXM use?
An ISO 21049 / API 682 seal chamber, which holds a variety of seal types including single and dual cartridge seals. Dual pressurised and unpressurised cartridge seals support emissions containment for severe services.
