Brand: Alfa Laval
Alfa Laval LKH UltraPure High-Purity Centrifugal Pump
Description
Alfa Laval LKH UltraPure high-purity centrifugal pump explained
The Alfa Laval LKH UltraPure is the pharmaceutical-grade version of the LKH hygienic centrifugal pump. It keeps the hydraulic design of the LKH platform, with a semi-open impeller that gives low NPSH required, but changes the materials, seals and documentation so the pump can be qualified and validated in regulated processes. Seven Star LLC supplies the LKH UltraPure in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.
The UltraPure label refers to a portfolio of equipment that Alfa Laval supplies with its Q-doc documentation package. For the buyer this matters as much as the metal: the paperwork travels with the pump and supports qualification, validation and change control on the user’s side.

The manufacturer page quotes two different capacity ceilings, one for the broader LKH platform and one for the standard UltraPure sizes. Confirm the exact limit for the size you need before relying on a figure.
How the LKH UltraPure works
The pump is made of a motor, impeller, casing, back plate, mechanical seal, legs, shaft connections and an adaptor. Inside the casing the semi-open impeller turns with the shaft and passes energy to the liquid, which gains velocity and then converts part of it into pressure before leaving through the outlet.
Balance holes in the impeller circulate process fluid around the shaft seal area, reduce axial force and wear on the seal and the motor bearings, and improve flow behind the impeller, which helps cleaning and cools the seal. The vane design keeps NPSH required low and limits cavitation.
The external shaft seal has few wear parts and is spring-mounted on the atmospheric side, so there is no spring in the product zone. The stationary ring is fixed to the back plate, which keeps the faces aligned over long periods of vibration and pressure shock. A defined O-ring groove locates the O-ring and gives metal-to-metal contact with a pre-set compression and no crevices.
Where the LKH UltraPure sits next to other LKH pumps
The LKH UltraPure is the plain, non-priming high-purity pump. If the suction line carries air, such as in a CIP return, the related LKH Prime UltraPure adds an air-screw. If the duty is not pharmaceutical, the standard LKH range and the specialised LKH Evap, LKHPF and LKHex pumps may suit better and avoid the documentation overhead. The same shaft seal is used across all UltraPure LKH sizes, which simplifies spares inside a plant.
Selecting and ordering the LKH UltraPure
- Duty flow and differential pressure, and the supply frequency.
- Product and cleaning media, including temperature during CIP and SIP, if applicable.
- Qualification needs: confirm that the Q-doc package is required and which certificates the project specification calls for.
- Elastomer requirements: USP Class VI is the stated baseline.
- Seal arrangement: single or double flushed, depending on the process.
- Surface finish and traceability expectations for wetted parts.
- Motor and electrical supply for the Omani or GCC site.
Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the LKH UltraPure
Install with good drainability in mind and align the pump with the pipework without forcing flanges. Validation teams usually want the installation, operational and performance records to refer to the same serial number, so keep the Q-doc file with the equipment.
The product page shows service videos for changing a single shaft seal and for the double mechanical seal on LKH pumps. As the seal is front-loading and spring-mounted on the atmospheric side, replacement takes limited time. Use genuine seal kits and keep the material certificates when you replace product-wetted parts, so the traceability record remains complete.
Typical applications in Oman and the GCC
High-purity pumps of this type are used in pharmaceutical and biotechnology process lines, and in other plants where contamination risk and extractables must be minimised. In the GCC that points to pharmaceutical manufacturing, laboratory-scale and pilot process skids, and premium personal-care or nutrition production. Hot, dusty site conditions and utilities quality still have to be considered for motors and cleaning supply, but they do not change the hygienic design of the wet end.
LKH UltraPure versus the standard LKH pump
| Aspect | LKH UltraPure | Standard LKH approach |
|---|---|---|
| Seal | Pharma-grade SiC+ | Standard LKH shaft seal options |
| Elastomers | USP Class VI | Selected per duty |
| Impeller | Low-delta ferrite | Standard impeller |
| Documentation | Q-doc, material traceability | Standard documents |
Information to send with an RFQ for the LKH UltraPure
- Part name “LKH UltraPure” and the size if known.
- Flow, head, fluid and temperature data.
- Documentation package and certificates required.
- Seal and elastomer choices.
- Nameplate data for an installed pump, if replacing.
- Delivery site and time.
Site conditions in Oman for the LKH UltraPure
Pump selection in Oman has to account for the site, not only the duty point. Process liquids and cooling water can arrive warm in summer, which raises vapour pressure and reduces the available NPSH, so check the NPSH margin of the LKH UltraPure at the highest expected liquid temperature. Motors on outdoor skids also work in high ambient air, and their rating, enclosure and cooling should match that environment.
For hygienic and process plants in the Gulf, plan the spare parts that wear first, such as seals, O-rings and bearings, and keep the material certificates with the plant records. Sharing the fluid, temperature, flow, head and cleaning regime with the supplier at RFQ stage makes it easier to confirm that the LKH UltraPure is the right configuration before the order is placed.

About brand
Alfa Laval is a Swedish engineering group built on three technologies: heat transfer, separation and fluid handling. Gustaf de Laval and Oscar Lamm founded the company in Stockholm in 1883 as AB Separator to make de Laval's continuous milk separator; the name Alfa-Laval was adopted in 1963. The company built its first heat exchanger in 1938, and today its plate heat exchangers, separators, pumps and valves are used in energy, marine, food, water and process industries. Group headquarters are in Lund, Sweden.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing Alfa Laval gasketed, fusion-bonded and welded plate heat exchangers and hygienic pumps for buyers in Oman and the GCC. Units and spare plates or gaskets are matched from the serial number on the frame nameplate.

Where Alfa Laval equipment is used
In Oman and the GCC, Alfa Laval plate heat exchangers are common in district cooling plants, HVAC systems, power stations, desalination, oil and gas processing, refineries and marine engine rooms. Gasketed units suit duties that need regular cleaning or later capacity changes, while welded and fusion-bonded units handle higher pressures, temperatures and media that gaskets cannot. Hygienic LKH pumps serve dairy, juice and beverage plants.
Ordering Alfa Laval equipment: what we need
For spare plates and gaskets, send the serial number and model from the frame nameplate. Alfa Laval keeps the build record, which defines the plate material, pattern and gasket type for each position. For a new heat exchanger add both fluids, flow rates, inlet and outlet temperatures, allowed pressure drop, design pressure and temperature, and connection standard. For an LKH pump send the model, size, impeller diameter, motor data and duty point.
