Danfoss 003N8211 FJVA 15 Thermostatic Water Valve with Bypass

Description

FJVA 15: a thermostatic water valve with a built-in bypass for 25 to 65 C control

Danfoss 003N8211 is an FJVA 15 thermostatic water valve with G 1/2 internal threads (ISO 228-1), a brass body, a 15 mm orifice and a Kv value of 1.9 m3/h. The page lists a setting range of 25 to 65 C and a bypass of 2 mm (5/64 in), so a small flow keeps the sensor in contact with the medium even when the valve is closed. The valve opens on rising sensor temperature.

The maximum working pressure is 16 bar (232 psig), the maximum differential 10 bar and the medium temperature range -25 to 130 C, for neutral media. Net weight is 1.122 kg, approvals are EAC, PED, RoHS and UA.

The role of the bypass

Where the AVTA fully closes, the FJVA always passes the bypass flow. That keeps warm water moving past the sensor and makes the response more stable in applications such as domestic hot water circulation, cooling of engines and temperature holding in tanks. The FJVA is a related design to the AVTA, sold under the same data-sheet family in the Danfoss store.

The temperature range 25 to 65 C is higher than the 0 to 30 C of the AVTA 15, which fits hot water and heating circuits instead of chilled-water duty. Check that the medium is neutral and the maximum temperature is within the valve limit.

Ordering and installation notes

Place the sensor in a pocket in the medium whose temperature is to be controlled, with the capillary protected. Connect the valve with the arrow in flow direction. The G thread is the ISO standard; do not mix with NPT fittings.

Confirm the setting range, the bypass requirement, the thread and the maximum differential pressure before ordering. See the FJVA data sheet and the FJVA installation guide for the setting procedure. The valve is a mechanical device with no electrical connection, so it can be fitted where no power supply exists, and a failed sensor charge shows up as a valve that stays closed or open, which is why the bypass and an isolating valve ahead of it are good practice in critical circuits.

About brand

Danfoss is the Danish engineering group that makes refrigeration and air-conditioning controls, heating components, variable speed drives and mobile hydraulics. Mads Clausen founded it on 1 September 1933 at his parents' farm in Nordborg on the island of Als, after making his first refrigeration expansion valve in 1932. Nordborg is still the group's headquarters, and Danfoss remains controlled by the Clausen family through the Bitten & Mads Clausen Foundation.

Danfoss company profile

Milestones

  • 1932–1933: First expansion valve; the company is founded in Nordborg.
  • 1939: 26 employees. By the 10th anniversary in 1943 the company has 179.
  • 1950s: Rapid growth turns Nordborg into a Danfoss town with housing and schools for its workforce.
  • 1968: Danfoss launches its VLT frequency converter, one of the first mass-produced AC drives.
  • 2014: Acquisition of the Finnish drives maker Vacon, now the VACON brand.
  • 2021: Acquisition of Eaton's hydraulics business.

Choosing Danfoss products

For solenoid valves, check the operating principle. A direct-operated valve such as EV210B opens even at 0 bar differential pressure. A servo-operated valve such as EV220B needs a minimum differential (typically about 0.3 bar) to open, while an assisted-lift valve such as EV250B works from 0 bar. Coils are ordered separately, so the voltage on the coil (for example 230 V AC or 24 V DC) must match the control circuit. For drives, the VLT family is split by application: FC 51 Micro Drive for small machines, FC 102 HVAC Drive for fans and pumps in buildings, FC 202 AQUA Drive for water, and FC 302 AutomationDrive for demanding industrial duty.

Where Danfoss products are used

In Oman and the GCC, Danfoss drives run pumps, fans and compressors in district cooling plants, water and wastewater stations, desalination and building HVAC. Danfoss pressure switches, transmitters and solenoid valves are built into chillers, refrigeration plants, boilers and hydraulic systems, and AB-QM valves balance chilled-water circuits in large buildings.
