HFI 050: a high-pressure float valve for ammonia liquid-level control

Danfoss 148G3095 is an HFI 050 float valve with a 150 mm (6 in) inlet and a 50 mm (2 in) outlet, both butt-weld to EN 10220. The valve sits on the high-pressure side of an ammonia system and feeds liquid to a receiver or separator according to the float level. The nozzle size is 50 mm and the valve constant is 33.58, with a rated capacity of 800 kW (227 TR) on R717 for evaporating temperatures of -10 to 35 C.

High-pressure float control

A high-pressure float valve is placed in the liquid line after the condenser, controlling the liquid level in a receiver or a liquid separator without electronics. When liquid rises the float opens the nozzle and passes liquid on; when the level falls the float closes. The method is simple and robust for central ammonia plants.

The HFI series ranges through sizes 040, 050, 060 and 070 and also appears in F and FD versions; capacity depends on the nozzle size and the pressure drop. Verify with the data sheet that the 800 kW figure suits your duty.

Mounting and ordering

At 39.5 kg the HFI needs support. Install in the level position given in the installation guide for the high-pressure float valve, because the float chamber must be at the reference liquid level. Weld with the float assembly protected and pressure test within 25 bar.

Choosing Danfoss products

For solenoid valves, check the operating principle. A direct-operated valve such as EV210B opens even at 0 bar differential pressure. A servo-operated valve such as EV220B needs a minimum differential (typically about 0.3 bar) to open, while an assisted-lift valve such as EV250B works from 0 bar. Coils are ordered separately, so the voltage on the coil (for example 230 V AC or 24 V DC) must match the control circuit. For drives, the VLT family is split by application: FC 51 Micro Drive for small machines, FC 102 HVAC Drive for fans and pumps in buildings, FC 202 AQUA Drive for water, and FC 302 AutomationDrive for demanding industrial duty.
