Danfoss 148B5404 REG-SA 25 Hand Regulating Valve, Socket Weld

Description

REG-SA 25: a hand-operated regulating valve with fine metering

The 148B5404 is an REG-SA 25 hand regulating valve from the SVL Flexline range. Unlike a stop valve, the REG valve is made for throttling with a graduated spindle and a defined flow area of 178 mm2 (0.275 in2). Connections are 25 mm (1 in) socket weld to ASME B 16.11 and the body is steel, with a cap rather than a handwheel. Net weight is 3.336 kg.

The ratings printed are a Kv value of 7 m3/h, a maximum working pressure of 52 bar (754 psig) and a temperature range of -60 to 150 C. Approvals shown include CRN, EAC and UA, and the valve is angleway with an embossed arrow.

Regulating versus shut-off

An REG valve sets the refrigerant flow manually: it serves as a hand expansion valve on flooded evaporators, as a by-pass or as a pressure-balancing valve. The SA version has a smaller flow area than the SB version of the same size, which gives finer adjustment on smaller flows. At DN 25, the SA flow area of 178 mm2 compares with 531 mm2 for an REG-SB 40.

The spindle has a scale, so settings can be recorded and repeated. The valve closes tight when turned fully in, but the REG is not meant for long-term isolation in place of a stop valve.

Ordering and installation checks

Choose between the SA and SB flow areas, the connection (socket weld here, butt weld on other codes) and cap or handwheel. The data sheet for REG-SA and REG-SB 10-65 gives Kv and the flow area for every setting so that you can size the valve from the real capacity.

Weld according to the Flexline installation guide, protecting the cone and seals. Confirm refrigerant and the pressure class before ordering. Spare parts are listed for the SVL Flexline platform.

Other types and sizes from the same Danfoss family that appear in the Danfoss store listing include REG-SA SS 10 (148B5017), REG-SA 10 (148B5102), REG-SA 15 (148B5202), REG-SA SS 15 (148B5297), REG-SA 20 (148B5302), REG-SA SS 20 (148B5385), REG-SA SS 25 (148B5494), REG-SA 32 (148B5502). These are listed for orientation only; each has its own datasheet values, so check size, connection and version before ordering.

About brand

Danfoss is the Danish engineering group that makes refrigeration and air-conditioning controls, heating components, variable speed drives and mobile hydraulics. Mads Clausen founded it on 1 September 1933 at his parents' farm in Nordborg on the island of Als, after making his first refrigeration expansion valve in 1932. Nordborg is still the group's headquarters, and Danfoss remains controlled by the Clausen family through the Bitten & Mads Clausen Foundation.

Danfoss company profile

Founded 1 September 1933, Nordborg, Denmark, by Mads Clausen (1905–1966)
First product Thermostatic expansion valve for refrigeration

Milestones

  • 1932–1933: First expansion valve; the company is founded in Nordborg.
  • 1939: 26 employees. By the 10th anniversary in 1943 the company has 179.
  • 1950s: Rapid growth turns Nordborg into a Danfoss town with housing and schools for its workforce.
  • 1968: Danfoss launches its VLT frequency converter, one of the first mass-produced AC drives.
  • 2014: Acquisition of the Finnish drives maker Vacon, now the VACON brand.
  • 2021: Acquisition of Eaton's hydraulics business.

Choosing Danfoss products

For solenoid valves, check the operating principle. A direct-operated valve such as EV210B opens even at 0 bar differential pressure. A servo-operated valve such as EV220B needs a minimum differential (typically about 0.3 bar) to open, while an assisted-lift valve such as EV250B works from 0 bar. Coils are ordered separately, so the voltage on the coil (for example 230 V AC or 24 V DC) must match the control circuit. For drives, the VLT family is split by application: FC 51 Micro Drive for small machines, FC 102 HVAC Drive for fans and pumps in buildings, FC 202 AQUA Drive for water, and FC 302 AutomationDrive for demanding industrial duty.

Where Danfoss products are used

In Oman and the GCC, Danfoss drives run pumps, fans and compressors in district cooling plants, water and wastewater stations, desalination and building HVAC. Danfoss pressure switches, transmitters and solenoid valves are built into chillers, refrigeration plants, boilers and hydraulic systems, and AB-QM valves balance chilled-water circuits in large buildings.

Ordering Danfoss products: what we need

Send the Danfoss code number from the label (for example 032U7115 or 131B0149) or the full drive type code (FC-302P3K0T5...). For drives, add the motor power, supply voltage and any fieldbus option. For valves, add the size, connection, medium and coil voltage. For pressure switches and transmitters, add the range, output and pressure connection.
