C-TEC SAP501E/X Addressable Sprinkler Alarm Panel

Description

The C-TEC SAP501E/X is a one-loop, 16-zone addressable sprinkler alarm panel for monitoring sprinkler flow switches over an Apollo XP95 / Discovery loop. C-TEC describes it as a re-labelled version of its XFP501E/X fire alarm control panel, so it uses the same programming tools but is sold as a sprinkler monitoring system rather than as a fire alarm panel. It is intended for sites that need a dedicated indication of which sprinkler zone has operated, separate from the fire detection system.

Technical specifications

Parameter Specification

Capacity Up to 126 addressable switch monitors on the 2-wire single loop
Indicators Up to 16 sprinkler zone indicator LEDs allocated to switch monitors in the programming software
Certification Carries no certification as a fire alarm control panel and must not be used as one (manufacturer statement)
Reference documents XFP501E/X Engineering Manual, User Manual and Quick Start Guide for installation and commissioning

How the panel is used

Flow switches are monitored on a two-wire single loop through Apollo XP95 switch monitors, typically the SA4700-100APO switch monitor with back box named in the addendum; Apollo’s own installation instructions give the connection details and address setting for those devices. Up to 126 switch monitors can be connected on the loop. Each monitor can be given a unique address and a text description in the programming software, and up to 16 sprinkler zone LEDs on the front can be assigned to the monitors as required. Isolators should be fitted where appropriate, at structural fire barriers and zonal boundaries, as the addendum’s loop diagram shows. Cause and effect programming is possible, but the manufacturer notes that this is usually reserved for fire alarm applications.

What to confirm before ordering

The addendum is explicit that the panel carries no certification as a fire alarm control panel and should not be used as one; for addressable fire alarm applications a panel from the XFP or ZFP ranges should be selected instead. The system designer remains responsible for making sure the sprinkler monitoring arrangement complies with national, regional or local standards. Confirm the protocol (this part is the Apollo version, while a CAST version is listed by the manufacturer under a different suffix), the number of sprinkler zones to be shown, the type of switch monitors and who will supply the XFP programming tools. The installation and commissioning details sit in the XFP501E/X engineering manual, user manual and quick start guide, which the addendum refers to.

Documents and quotation

The linked file is the one-page C-TEC XFP Addendum 1 for the SAP501E/X (DFU1200515 Rev 1), which explains the intended use and limits of the panel; the XFP501E/X manuals it refers to are available from the manufacturer. Before ordering confirm the protocol, the number of zones and the switch monitor type. For certified fire alarm control see the C-TEC XFP501/CA, or browse fire and gas logic controllers. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, will prepare a quotation from your project requirements.

About brand

C-TEC has made life safety electronics in Wigan, United Kingdom since 1981: fire alarm panels, detectors, power supplies, disabled refuge and call systems. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Oman, lists C-TEC panels and detectors such as the XFP501/CA single loop addressable fire panel, the CP416 CAST-PRO addressable optical smoke detector and the CFP708-4 eight zone conventional fire alarm panel.

C-TEC fire alarm families

The manufacturer divides fire systems into conventional and addressable. On the conventional side are the CFP panels in 2 to 8 zones, with ActiV detectors, sounders and call points. On the addressable side, XFP panels cover one or two loops and ZFP panels up to eight, working with C-TEC's own CAST protocol and CAST-PRO devices. Addressable panels are also made for Apollo XP95 and Discovery and for Hochiki ESP devices, so the protocol of a panel must match the detectors on its loop. EN54-4 power supplies, SigTEL refuge systems and EVAC-ALERT panels complete the range.

Ordering C-TEC equipment: what we need

Send the full part number including the suffix after the slash, which separates protocol versions of the same panel. Tell us the detector protocol already on site, the number of loops or zones, and any network or repeater requirement. For projects in the GCC, name the approval the consultant specifies so we request the matching certificates from the manufacturer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the SAP501E/X a fire alarm control panel?
No. C-TEC states it carries no certification as a fire alarm control panel and should not be used as one.
What does it monitor?
Sprinkler flow switches connected to Apollo XP95 switch monitors on an addressable loop.
How many switch monitors can it handle?
Up to 126 switch monitors on its two-wire single loop, with up to 16 zone indicator LEDs.
Which protocol does it use?
Apollo XP95 / Discovery.
How is it programmed?
With the XFP programming tools, since it is a re-labelled XFP501E/X; zones and descriptions are allocated to the switch monitors in the software.
