Danfoss 180B0040 PAH 63 High-Flow Water Pump
Description
Danfoss 180B0040 PAH 63 large-flow water pump
The Danfoss 180B0040 is the PAH 63, a high-flow member of the PAH 50 to 100 group of water-lubricated axial piston pumps. It has 63 cm³ displacement per revolution, a 160 bar outlet rating, AISI 304 housing, NBR seals and G 1 1/2 inlet and G 1 1/4 outlet connections. Delivering about 56 l/min at 1000 rpm and 88 l/min at 1500 rpm at full pressure, it is used where a water-hydraulic system must be driven at large flow without oil in the circuit. Seven Star LLC supplies the 180B0040 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.
It weighs 31 kg and needs a motor of roughly 27 kW at 1500 rpm, so it is normally a skid-level component with a proper frame, bell housing and coupling rather than a bolt-on accessory.

Running the PAH 63 above 1800 rpm
The data sheet allows the PAH 63, 70 and 80 to run between 1800 and 2400 rpm only if three conditions hold: inlet pressure of 2 to 4 bar g, outlet pressure of no more than 140 bar g, and no more than 500 hours between service inspections. That extended range lifts the flow of the PAH 63 to 145 l/min. For continuous duty with the full 8000 hour service life the pump should stay at or below 1800 rpm. This is a practical difference from the smaller PAH 25 (180B0036), which has a single speed limit of 1800 rpm and does not offer an extended range.
Sizing the motor for the 180B0040
With the manufacturer formula P = n × V × p / (600 000 × η) and η = 0.95, the 180B0040 at 1500 rpm and 160 bar needs about 26.5 kW, matching the 26.8 kW table value. At 1800 rpm and the same pressure the requirement rises to about 31.8 kW (about 43 hp). Torque at 160 bar is 170.8 Nm and does not change with speed, which matters when a drive is used to adjust flow: the motor must be able to produce that torque at the lowest speed in service.
Where the PAH 63 sits in the range
Within the PAH 50 to 100 group, the PAH 50 (180B0047) is limited to 80 bar, the PAH 63, 70 and 80 reach 160 bar, and the PAH 100 has a split rating: 80 bar for full service life and 160 bar only for short operating hours between inspections. The PAH 63 is therefore the smallest of the pumps that carry the full 160 bar rating in this group, and it shares its housing, 31 kg weight and G 1/4 drain with the PAH 70 and 80.
Selection and ordering checklist
- Flow requirement at working pressure, against 56.2 and 87.9 l/min at 1000 and 1500 rpm.
- Whether the extended 1800 to 2400 rpm range with a 500 hour inspection interval is acceptable.
- Working pressure up to 160 bar, remembering 140 bar maximum in the extended range.
- Reservoir design, filtration to 10 µm absolute and water temperature control.
- Motor power of around 27 kW at 1500 rpm and the drive or starter arrangement.
- Standard 180B0040 or ATEX 180B6140.
Installation and maintenance
The 180B0040 needs a robust frame and anti-vibration mounting, flexible hoses and a pressure relief valve in the outlet because it generates pressure immediately on start. A non-return valve stops backspin. The data sheet recommends an inspection after 8000 hours even without visible problems, replacing worn pistons and shaft seals if necessary, and warns that poor filtration is the leading cause of pump damage. Keep the filter differential monitored by a pressure switch, and use a minimum level switch so the pump cannot run dry.
Applications of the 180B0040 in Oman and the GCC
Large-flow water-hydraulic systems, high-pressure descaling and cleaning at petrochemical and power sites, fire-fighting mist systems and humidification skids can use this size. In Gulf summers, tank water temperature often approaches the 50 °C media limit; plan tank cooling or shading in outdoor installations.

Site conditions in Oman for the 180B0040
Pump selection in Oman has to account for the site, not only the duty point. Process liquids and cooling water can arrive warm in summer, which raises vapour pressure and reduces the available NPSH, so check the NPSH margin of the 180B0040 at the highest expected liquid temperature. Motors on outdoor skids also work in high ambient air, and their rating, enclosure and cooling should match that environment.
For hygienic and process plants in the Gulf, plan the spare parts that wear first, such as seals, O-rings and bearings, and keep the material certificates with the plant records. Sharing the fluid, temperature, flow, head and cleaning regime with the supplier at RFQ stage makes it easier to confirm that the 180B0040 is the right configuration before the order is placed.

About brand
Danfoss is the Danish engineering group that makes refrigeration and air-conditioning controls, heating components, variable speed drives and mobile hydraulics. Mads Clausen founded it on 1 September 1933 at his parents' farm in Nordborg on the island of Als, after making his first refrigeration expansion valve in 1932. Nordborg is still the group's headquarters, and Danfoss remains controlled by the Clausen family through the Bitten & Mads Clausen Foundation.

Choosing Danfoss products
For solenoid valves, check the operating principle. A direct-operated valve such as EV210B opens even at 0 bar differential pressure. A servo-operated valve such as EV220B needs a minimum differential (typically about 0.3 bar) to open, while an assisted-lift valve such as EV250B works from 0 bar. Coils are ordered separately, so the voltage on the coil (for example 230 V AC or 24 V DC) must match the control circuit. For drives, the VLT family is split by application: FC 51 Micro Drive for small machines, FC 102 HVAC Drive for fans and pumps in buildings, FC 202 AQUA Drive for water, and FC 302 AutomationDrive for demanding industrial duty.
Where Danfoss products are used
In Oman and the GCC, Danfoss drives run pumps, fans and compressors in district cooling plants, water and wastewater stations, desalination and building HVAC. Danfoss pressure switches, transmitters and solenoid valves are built into chillers, refrigeration plants, boilers and hydraulic systems, and AB-QM valves balance chilled-water circuits in large buildings.
