Brand:

ABB CR-M024DC2 Interface Relay 24 V DC 2 c/o 12 A

Description

CR-M024DC2: a 24 V DC relay with two 12 A changeover contacts

CR-M024DC2 is the 24 V DC, two-contact version of ABB’s CR-M miniature interface relays. It has two changeover (SPDT) contacts rated 12 A at 250 V and no LED. It plugs into a CR-M socket and is typically driven from a 24 V PLC output.

According to the data sheet the relay is used for electrical isolation, amplification and signal matching between the control level and the sensor or actuator level. It has no internal protective circuit, so a free-wheeling diode or other function module can be added where needed.

Coil and contact behaviour

The coil draws 0.9 W with a resistance of 640 ohm. The relay picks up at 19.2 V DC at 20 C and tolerates up to 26.4 V DC at 55 C, and it releases at 10 percent of the rated voltage or more, which shows a wide operating window for 24 V supplies with ripple.

The two contacts are AgNi and carry 12 A resistive at 230 V AC or 24 V DC. For inductive loads the ratings fall to 1.5 A at 230 V AC (AC15) or 2.5 A at 24 V DC (DC13), so the load type matters. The test button actuates and locks the contacts for commissioning.

Sockets and function modules

Sockets for two-contact relays include the CR-M2SS standard screw socket (1SVR405651R1000), the CR-M2LS logical screw socket (1SVR405651R1100) and the CR-M4SS for 2 or 4 contacts (1SVR405651R3000). A plastic holder CR-MH (1SVR405659R1000) fixes the relay.

Plug-in function modules such as the CR-P/M 22 diode (1SVR405651R0000, 6 to 230 V DC) can be added for reverse-polarity protection or free-wheeling. For a DC coil, the CR-P/M 42 modules add an LED as well.

About brand

ABB is the Swiss-Swedish engineering group for electrification and automation: low voltage drives, motors, circuit breakers and motor control, process instruments and analysers, control systems and robots. It was formed on 5 January 1988 by the merger of two older companies. ASEA was founded in Västerås, Sweden, in 1883 by Ludvig Fredholm to make electric lighting and generators. BBC Brown Boveri was founded in Baden near Zurich in 1891 by Charles E. L. Brown and Walter Boveri. ABB Ltd is incorporated in Switzerland, headquartered in Zurich and listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange and Nasdaq Stockholm.

Choosing an ABB drive

ABB's ACS drive codes are easy to read once you know the pattern. In ACS580-01-046A-4, "ACS580" is the drive family, "01" means a wall-mounted single drive, "046A" is the rated output current (about 46 A) and "-4" means a 380–480 V supply. The family is chosen by application: ACS355 for compact machinery, ACS310 for simple pumps and fans, ACS580 as the general-purpose drive, ACQ580 for water and wastewater with pump functions such as pipe fill and dry-run protection, and ACS880 for heavy industrial duty with direct torque control. Size the drive on the motor's full-load current, not only its kW rating, and allow derating for the high ambient temperatures common in Gulf electrical rooms.

Where ABB products are used

In Oman and the GCC, ABB drives and motors run pumps, fans and compressors in water and wastewater plants, district cooling, oil and gas and industry. ABB flowmeters, level instruments and analysers are used in water utilities, power and desalination plants and refineries, and SACE breakers protect switchboards in buildings and plants.
