Welded 316L stainless steel flameproof junction boxes for gas group IIB+H2

The Cortem EJBX series are flameproof junction boxes made from welded AISI 316L stainless steel sheet for plants where there is a risk of explosion or combustible dust, classified as Zone 1, 2, 21 or 22. They carry gas group IIB+H2, so they can be used where hydrogen may be present, and the datasheet states that the equipment can be used in an explosive atmosphere with hydrogen.

Cortem lists the boxes as junction boxes with connection terminals, as enclosures for fuses, transformers and reactors, as monitoring and signalling boards, light and power boards, and as motor starter boxes. They are built to customer configuration, with the empty enclosure certified as a component and the completed assembly certified for its contents.

Options, drilling and selection

Accessories on request include hinges on the short side, a breather valve or drain valve code ECD-210S, a 2.5 mm stainless steel internal mounting plate, windows in the lid for instruments, external paint in a chosen colour, and NPT, ISO 7-1 gas or ISO 261/965 metric thread entries. Cortem states that it manufactures custom enclosures to customer specifications within the certification data.

Entry holes are drilled by Cortem or by a partner holding an ATEX production notification, with maximum hole quantities by size listed in the datasheet. Select the size from the terminal and component layout, the heat dissipated inside the enclosure and the temperature class needed, then confirm the cable gland type with the certificate of the finished assembly. Cortem also marks its products with a hologram label and a unique code as an anti-counterfeit measure.
