Böhler FOX SAS 2-A E347-17 Stabilised Stainless Electrode

Description

Stabilised E347-17 electrode for 321 and 347 stainless steel

The Böhler FOX SAS 2-A is a rutile-coated, core-wire-alloyed, niobium-stabilised electrode of E347-17 type (EN ISO 3581-A E 19 9 Nb R 3 2). Böhler Welding names the Ti and Nb stabilised grades 1.4541 (321) and 1.4546 (347) as the main application, with design goals of first-class weld seams and easy handling on both AC and DC. The data sheet cites high current-carrying capacity with minimum spatter, self-releasing slag and a smooth, clean weld profile. Corrosion resistance corresponds to 316Ti, with good resistance to general and pitting corrosion, and maximum service temperature is 752 °F.

Base materials and selection

Base materials listed are 1.4301, 1.4306, 1.4311, 1.4312, 1.4541, 1.4546, 1.4550 and 1.4552, UNS S30400, S30403, S30453, S32100 and S34700, and AISI 347, 321, 302, 304, 304L and 304LN. Stabilised grades are used where the process temperature falls in the sensitisation range, for example refinery and chemical piping and heat-exchanger shells. Böhler notes that the electrode can be used for cladding, which normally requires stress relieving at about 1094 °F, and that such a heat treatment will lower the ductility at room temperature; the FOX E 347 H is named as the alternative in that case. For 316Ti and 316Cb grades Böhler lists the FOX SAS 4-A instead, and for 316L the

FOX EAS 4 M-VD.

applies.

Related Böhler Welding electrode Classification (AWS A5.1 / A5.5 / A5.4) Typical use

Handling and what to confirm

Generally no heat treatment is needed. Keep stainless electrodes separate from carbon steel consumables and use clean stainless tools. Confirm the diameter, pack type, quantity, base grade and operating temperature, and whether ferrite or intergranular corrosion test certificates are required with the delivery.

The electrode runs on both AC and DC, which is practical where only an AC transformer is available. The typical analysis shows 0.32 % niobium with carbon at 0.03 %, the combination that stabilises the weld metal against chromium carbide formation. Impact toughness is quoted down to minus 184 °F with 26 ft-lb typical, so the deposit covers low-temperature as well as elevated-temperature service up to 752 °F.

About brand

Böhler Welding is the welding consumables brand of voestalpine Böhler Welding, part of the voestalpine group, with a portfolio that covers stick electrodes, TIG rods, solid wires, gas-shielded and self-shielded flux-cored wires and submerged-arc wires and fluxes. The company states more than 100 years of experience. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists Böhler Welding consumables and welding machines, including pipeline electrodes, and sources Böhler Welding consumables for fabricators and pipeline contractors.

Böhler Welding product groups

Beyond the consumables above, Böhler Welding lists strip cladding, wire arc additive manufacturing, metal powders, arc spraying cored wires, ceramic weld backing, brazing consumables and welding automation such as orbital welding and collaborative robots. The pipeline range includes cellulosic FOX CEL electrodes and basic vertical-down FOX BVD electrodes for large-diameter line pipe.

Ordering Böhler Welding consumables: what we need

Give the product name, the AWS or EN classification, the diameter and length, and the packaging you need. For pipeline electrodes also state the pipe grade, wall thickness, welding position and whether sour-service test values are required, because the Böhler Welding data sheets note that some test values are available on request.
