Selectarc FCW 2509MOP E2594T1 Super Duplex Flux-Cored Wire

Description

Positional flux-cored wire for super duplex fabrication

The Selectarc FCW 2509MOP is a gas-shielded flux-cored wire for welding super duplex stainless steels in all positions. It is classified AWS A5.22 E2594T1-4 and ISO 17633-A T 25 9 4 Cu N L P M21 1. The rutile fast-freezing slag lets the welder deposit 25 9 4 Cu N weld metal vertically and overhead, which suits fixed pipework, manifolds and structural nodes.

Selectarc lists resistance to intergranular attack, pitting, crevice and stress corrosion, a PREN above 40 and use at service temperatures up to 250 °C. The stated applications are pumps, vessels and piping that handle chloride solutions, plus impellers and other parts that need high strength along with corrosion resistance.

Parent materials

The data sheet lists UNS S32750 (2507, X2CrNiMoN25-7-4, 1.4410), S32760 (X2CrNiMoCuWN25-7-4, 1.4501), S32550 (1.4517) and the 52N+ grade 1.4507, as well as S31803 (1.4462) and S32304 (1.4362). Typical oil and gas uses include seawater lift and injection lines, firewater ring mains, produced water treatment and offshore topside process piping.

The copper-bearing 25 9 4 composition gives a deposit PREN in line with super duplex plate. For standard 2205 work the 22 9 3 type FCW 2209P is usually more economical, but the super duplex wire is sometimes chosen there too when a project wants additional corrosion margin in the weld.

Procedure considerations

Use DC positive with the 1.2 mm wire at 130 to 250 A and 24 to 35 V, a stick-out of 12 to 20 mm and M21 shielding gas at 10 to 20 l/min. Super duplex needs a tighter heat input and interpass window than standard duplex: too much heat promotes sigma phase, too little leaves excess ferrite. Agree the limits in the WPS and check them during qualification with ferrite counts, microstructural examination and an ASTM G48 corrosion test.

The typical impact value given by Selectarc is 35 J at -20 °C. Projects that require Charpy testing at -46 °C or lower should confirm whether a rutile flux-cored deposit meets the requirement, or use GTAW or basic electrodes for those joints. Remove slag fully between passes and protect the arc from draughts.

Store spools in their sealed packaging and return partly used spools to a dry cabinet at the end of each shift; moisture in the flux core is a common cause of porosity in stainless flux-cored welds.

About brand

Selectarc is a French manufacturer of welding and brazing filler metals, headquartered in Grandvillars, France. Its welding activity began in 1952 with Selectarc Industrie, a plant making covered electrodes, and the business is the welding and brazing division of the family group Viellard Migeon & Compagnie. In 2025 Framatome took a 40% stake in the company.

Selectarc welding and brazing products

The welding range covers covered electrodes for carbon, low-alloy, stainless and nickel-base steels, MIG and TIG wires, flux-cored wires and hardfacing products, with brazing alloys made at the former Reboud-Roche foundry. Selectarc lists the nuclear, defence and aerospace industries among its key markets, and welding production is concentrated at its Grandvillars site, which also houses the research laboratory.

Ordering Selectarc filler metals: what we need

Give the product name, for example Selectarc Ni625, and the AWS or ISO classification in your procedure, the diameter and length, and the quantity. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, checks the grade against the Selectarc technical data sheet and can provide the data sheet and the certificates issued with the order on request.
