AUMA FQM 07.1 Fail-Safe Unit for SQ 07.2 Actuators

Description

Overview

AUMA FQM 07.1 is the second fail-safe unit in the range and doubles the minimum torque of the FQM 05.1 to 300 Nm. It is paired with the SQ 07.2 part-turn actuator, and it offers the shortest fail-safe time span of the family, 8 s to 26 s for a 90 degree stroke. For emergency shut-down valves where speed of closure matters, this is the fastest option AUMA documents.

Seven Star LLC, the official trusted supplier and regional supplier for AUMA, supplies the AUMA FQM 07.1 to oil, gas, power and water projects across Oman and the GCC. Our team works with safety engineers in Muscat, Sohar and Salalah to document the safe-state requirement, trigger logic and valve torque before an order is placed.

Faster Emergency Action at 300 Nm

The AUMA FQM 07.1 uses stored mechanical energy to move the valve when the ESD input or the mains supply triggers the function, so the emergency stroke does not depend on any electrical supply. The fail-safe time is set at the factory in the range of 8 s to 26 s, and it lengthens as the valve torque demand rises. The minimum torque is 300 Nm, so a valve whose torque in the safe direction is lower than that will move as designed, while one that needs more cannot be served by this size.

In normal operation the SQ 07.2 provides the motor stroke at operating times of 5.6 s to 32 s, which gives the process a fast routine movement and the safety function a separately defined emergency time. A ready signal contact and two galvanically isolated end position switches report the unit state, each rated for 0.1 A at 30 V DC. Documented lifetime is 500 fail-safe operations, which should be counted against any proof-test plan that includes full-stroke tests.

Engineering Design of the AUMA FQM 07.1

The standard valve attachment of the AUMA FQM 07.1 is EN ISO 5211 F10, with F07 as the option, which is the reverse of the FQM 05.1. The coupling accepts shafts up to 25.4 mm cylindrical, 22 mm square or 22 mm two-flat. The swing angle can be adjusted between 80 and 96 degrees, and the unit weighs about 66 kg without actuator and controls.

At roughly 66 kg without actuator and controls, the FQM 07.1 is only slightly heavier than the 05.1. Because F10 is the standard flange, the higher 0.5 g vibration rating at 10 to 200 Hz applies by default, and choosing F07 drops it to 0.3 g. The unit installs vertically or horizontally with a support, never pointing downward. AUMA specifies IP68, KS corrosion protection with a KX option, and -30 °C to +70 °C for the standard unit (option -40 °C to +60 °C), while the explosion-proof FQMEx 07.1 is rated -30 °C to +60 °C.

Key Features

The AUMA FQM 07.1 offers the quickest fail-safe action in the FQM family together with a 300 Nm torque reserve.

  • A 300 Nm minimum torque doubles the reserve of the smallest unit for moderate-torque valves.
  • The 8 s to 26 s fail-safe time is the fastest range of the family.
  • F10 is the standard flange, which gives the higher 0.5 g vibration rating.
  • The initiation criterion, ESD signal, mains failure or both, is chosen when the order is placed.
  • A ready signal and isolated end position switches report unit state at 0.1 A and 30 V DC.
  • The energy store is rated for 500 fail-safe operations.
  • Pairs with the SQ 07.2 and AC controls as a modular package.
  • FQMEx 07.1 is the Zone 1 version, documented in its own data sheet.

Selection Guidance for the AUMA FQM 07.1

With the AUMA FQM 07.1, begin from the safety requirement specification: required safe position, response time, and proof-test interval. Compare the 8 s to 26 s fail-safe time with the closing time allowed by the process hazard analysis, and remember that heavier valves take longer. Then confirm the valve torque against the 300 Nm minimum, and the flange against F10 or F07.

As the unit adds about 66 kg above the valve, the valve and pipe supports should be reviewed by the piping designer before installation.

Industrial Applications

The AUMA FQM 07.1 suits emergency isolation of mid-small valves on fuel gas feeds, flare knock-out drain lines, boiler feedwater and cooling water headers, where a power failure must close or open the valve without delay. Because its fail-safe time begins at 8 s, it is also used where a trip must be completed quickly to prevent a hazardous situation from developing.

In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC supplies the FQM 07.1 on request with local support.

About brand
Electric actuators for industrial valves are the core of AUMA's business. Founded in 1964 and based in Müllheim, Germany, the company builds multi-turn, part-turn and linear actuators with matching gearboxes and actuator controls, in modular combinations that are fixed at the time of order. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing AUMA actuators, gearboxes, fail-safe units and the SIMA2 master station for valve automation projects and replacements in Oman and the GCC.

AUMA actuator and gearbox types

SA multi-turn actuators handle open-close duty on gate and globe valves, and SAR is the modulating version; the listing includes the SA 07.2, SA 10.2 and SA 25.1. SAEx and SAREx are the explosion-proof equivalents. Part-turn duty on ball and butterfly valves is covered by SQ and the modulating SQR, or by an SA actuator combined with a GS part-turn gearbox. LE linear thrust units convert multi-turn output to thrust, and GHT multi-turn gearboxes extend the torque range up to 120,000 Nm. PROFOX is the compact actuator line. Special items include the seawater-resistant SGM and SGMR part-turn actuators with bronze housings, the SVC and SVCR globe valve actuators and the FQM fail-safe unit. Integral controls come as AM or AC versions.

Where AUMA electric actuators are used

AUMA actuators are found in water, power, oil and gas, marine and general industry. In practice that means isolation and control valves in water treatment and pumping stations, power plant steam and cooling systems, tank farms and pipelines, and sluice gates and dampers.
