JUMO Mineral-Insulated RTD Temperature Probe

Description

Overview

JUMO Mineral-Insulated RTD Temperature Probe is a flexible resistance thermometer built according to DIN EN 60751, engineered for chemical plants, power plants, pipelines, engine building, and test rigs wherever measuring locations require flexibility and simple replacement. Featuring a flexible, thin-walled stainless steel sheath cable with a vibration-resistant measuring insert, the JUMO Mineral-Insulated RTD Temperature Probe covers an exceptionally wide temperature range from -50°C (or -200°C on select variants) up to +600°C.

Backed by manufacturer datasheet documentation, Seven Star LLC proudly supplies the JUMO Mineral-Insulated RTD Temperature Probe to chemical, power generation, and industrial customers across Oman and the wider GCC. Every unit supplied through Seven Star LLC comes with manufacturer documentation and access to local technical support – supporting facility engineers and procurement teams in Muscat, Sohar, and Salalah who specify the JUMO Mineral-Insulated RTD Temperature Probe.

Working Principle

The JUMO Mineral-Insulated RTD Temperature Probe operates on the resistance temperature detector principle: inside a flexible, thin-walled sheathed cable made of stainless steel, low-ohmic conductor copper wires are embedded in compressed, heat-resistant magnesium oxide, providing continuous electrical insulation while transferring heat efficiently to the Pt100 or Pt1000 sensing element at the tip. The temperature sensor is connected to the conductor in two-wire, three-wire, or four-wire technology, and as process temperature changes the platinum element’s electrical resistance changes in a precise, DIN EN 60751-compliant relationship, giving a standardized and repeatable measurement.

This mineral-insulated construction gives the probe its defining response speed and durability advantage: the compressed magnesium oxide insulation conducts heat quickly to the sensing element while damping mechanical vibration that would otherwise fatigue a conventional wired sensor over time. Response times as fast as t0.5 = 0.4 m/s in water or 3 m/s in air reflect the thin, flexible sheath’s ability to transfer thermal changes to the sensor rapidly, making the probe suitable for process loops requiring quick temperature feedback.

Engineering Design of the JUMO Mineral-Insulated RTD Temperature Probe

The JUMO Mineral-Insulated RTD Temperature Probe is available with connecting cables in PVC (-5°C to +80/+105°C), silicone (-50°C to +180°C), PTFE (-190°C to +260°C), or metal-braided cable (-50°C to +350°C), allowing the cable material to be matched to the ambient conditions surrounding the installation. The protection tube itself is manufactured from stainless steel 1.4541, and cable ends can be supplied stripped bare or fitted with ferrules, plug-in sleeves, or multi-pole electrical connectors according to the termination requirements of the connected instrumentation.

Process connections include screw connections in G1/2, G1/4, G3/8, M8, and 1/2-14 NPT sizes, and the probe is available as a single or double RTD temperature probe, with sheath diameters of 1.9 mm, 3 mm, or 6 mm, and insertion lengths from 100 mm up to 1000 mm to match application-specific mounting requirements. The standard adapter sleeve (end closure) is rated up to 120°C, with a 300°C-rated version available for higher-temperature connecting-head applications.

Key Features

The JUMO Mineral-Insulated RTD Temperature Probe combines a flexible, vibration-resistant sheath design with a wide operating envelope that makes it a standard choice for demanding process temperature measurement.

About brand

JUMO is the German maker of temperature sensors, process controllers, pressure transmitters and liquid analysis instruments. Moritz Kurt Juchheim founded it in Fulda in 1948 as M. K. Juchheim KG, making glass thermometers with six employees. The name JUMO comes from the founder's name. It is still a family company headquartered in Fulda, and the parent company has been called JUMO GmbH & Co. KG since 2003.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list JUMO RTD and thermocouple probes, thermowells, transmitters, controllers, recorders and water analysis instruments, and supply them to process plants, OEMs, HVAC contractors and water utilities in Oman and the GCC by type number.

Choosing a temperature sensor starts with the range and accuracy. A Pt100 RTD is accurate and stable from about -200 to 600 °C and is the usual choice in process plants. A thermocouple (type K or J, for example) covers much higher temperatures and responds faster but is less accurate. The wiring also matters: a 3-wire or 4-wire Pt100 connection cancels the resistance of the cable, while a 2-wire connection adds an error that grows with cable length. That is why a head-mounted transmitter is often fitted close to the sensor.

Where JUMO products are used

In Oman and the GCC, JUMO sensors and controllers are used in oil and gas and chemical plants, food and beverage production, plastics and metal heat treatment, HVAC and district cooling, water and wastewater treatment, swimming pools and marine applications.
