A mid-range PATROL sounder and flashing light with 107 dB(A) output

The Pfannenberg PA X 5-05 and PA X 5-10 are PATROL flashing sounders with a higher output than the PA X 1-05: up to 107 dB(A) with 5 J (5-05) or 10 J (5-10) of xenon flash energy. They share the PATROL concept of a factory pre-wired sounder and light in an impact-proof housing with IP66 protection, and a mounting design in which installation errors are hard to make. The 5-10 reaches a maximum viewing distance of 283 m with a clear lens, compared with 173 m for the 5-05.

On the product page Pfannenberg lists UL approval, EAC, EAC 043/2017 fire alarm, and DNV, MED and MER certificates for the family. The EN 54 approval marked on the PA X 1-05 is not marked for the PA X 5 in the product sheet, so do not assume it carries across; if an EN 54 sounder is specified, check the approval on the exact article number.

Common data: operating range 187-255 V AC, 90-135 V AC, 18-30 V DC (further DC ranges 40-60 V and 12-15 V); operating temperature -40 °C to +55 °C; relative humidity 90%; IP66; protection class II; PC/ABS blend sounder housing in RAL 3000 or RAL 7035 with a polycarbonate lens; 3 x M20 knock-outs on the side and one on the back; light emission still 70% after 8,000,000 flashes.

Ordering code and article numbers

The PA X 5-05 base number is 23351 and follows the same pattern as the PA X 1-05: voltage group (10 for 230 V AC, 15 for 115 V AC, 80 for 24 V DC), lens digit (1 clear, 3 yellow, 4 amber, 5 red) and housing suffix (000 red, 055 grey).

The listed accessories are the enclosure fitting 28300000003, the surface gasket 28300000005 (PA X 5), the tamper-proof sealing 28300000002 and a panel mounting kit. Confirm the PA X 5-10 article numbers on the sheet.

Choosing between PA X 1, 5, 10 and 20

Select the sound output and flash energy from the room size and ambient noise. The PA X 1-05 gives 105 dB(A), the PA X 5 107 dB(A), the PA X 10 117 dB(A) and the PA X 20 122 dB(A). Visual coverage depends on lens colour, and Pfannenberg gives the covered volume for each colour and alarm level in its 3D coverage tool.
