Brand: Pfannenberg
Pfannenberg PF 22.000 DC Filterfan, Installation Size 2
Description
A compact filterfan for small enclosures and hot spots
The Pfannenberg PF 22.000 is an installation-size-2 filterfan: a filtered-air fan that is clipped into a cut-out in the enclosure wall and blows ambient air through a filter mat into the cabinet, with the warm air leaving through a separate exhaust filter such as the PFA 20.000. With up to 61 m³/h of free air flow on DC and 70 m³/h on AC at 60 Hz it suits small control boxes, junction boxes and sensor enclosures where the heat load is modest.
The unit is available in IP 54 with a standard filter and in IP 55 with a fluted filter, both with NEMA type 12 per UL 50, and the DC version covered here runs on 12, 24 or 48 V, which makes it easy to power from a machine or a battery system. Compared with a cooling unit, a filterfan has no refrigerant circuit and very low power consumption, but it can only cool to the ambient temperature and is only suitable where the outside air is cooler than the allowed enclosure temperature.

Accessories and sizing
The sheet lists the exhaust filter in grey (11720001055, single piece) and black (11720001050), a 42-piece packing of exhaust filters for faster assembly (11720001411), spare filter mats in IP 54 (18611600030) and IP 55 (18611600034), a thermostat (17121000000), a hygrostat (17207000000) and a stainless steel rain hood (18102000014). The airflow in combination with an exhaust filter is lower, 44 m³/h in IP 54 and 40 m³/h in IP 55, and that is the figure to use when sizing the installation.
The pages for the PF family also list AC versions on 230 V and 115 V with clamp connection, for example 11622101055 and 11622151055, with their own product sheet, and a MEK version with a mounting extension for 3 to 5 mm wall thickness.
Selection and what to confirm before ordering
A filterfan is sized from the heat that must be removed and the permissible temperature rise over ambient. As a general engineering relation, the required airflow in m³/h is roughly 3.1 times the heat loss in watts divided by the temperature rise in kelvin, so 20 W of loss and a 10 K rise needs about 6 m³/h before accounting for filter and exhaust resistance. Compare the result with the in-combination airflow above and keep a reserve. Use the IP 55 version where jets of dust or water may reach the filter face, and check the temperature range of the site: the cabinet can never be cooler than the air outside.
Confirm the voltage (12, 24 or 48 V DC for this sheet), protection class, whether an exhaust filter is needed, and whether the wall thickness requires the MEK version. Cut-out compatibility with installation size 2 of the third generation is stated by the manufacturer.
How the Pfannenberg PF 22.000 works
The fan draws outside air through a filter mat and blows it into the enclosure. The warm air inside is pushed out through a second filter. The air flow carries heat out of the cabinet without a refrigerant circuit.

About brand
Pfannenberg is a Hamburg-based family company that makes signaling devices and thermal management products for industrial use. Otto Pfannenberg founded the company in 1954, and its history includes the invention of the filter-fan in 1958 and of the electronic flashing beacon in 1962.
Pfannenberg signaling range
The signaling range covers PATROL and PYRA combined sounders and flashing lights, PROTECT sounders for hazardous areas, and INTENSE modular signal towers. PATROL PA X units are offered from 105 dB(A) to 122 dB(A), and the PRO 10-Ex sounder is specified for zone 2 and zone 22 explosive atmospheres with Ex ec and Ex tc protection.
Requesting a quote for Pfannenberg devices
Send the article number or the full device designation, such as PA X 1-05, together with the supply voltage, lens colour, housing colour and any approval the project requires, for example EN 54-3 or an Ex certificate. Pfannenberg approvals apply to specific versions, so the exact article number is needed to confirm them.
