Hydac ETS 4148-H HSI Temperature Transmitter, -25 to 100C

Description

Hydac ETS 4148-H temperature transmitter with HSI automatic sensor detection

The Hydac ETS 4148-H belongs to the ETS 4100-H family of electronic temperature transmitters with HSI (HYDAC Sensor Interface). It is designed to be plugged into HYDAC portable measuring instruments, the HMG 5X0, HMG 2500, HMG 30X0 and HMG 4000, which recognise it automatically and set the measuring range and unit without manual configuration. The transmitter has a robust one-piece construction with an integrated temperature probe, measures -25°C to +100°C and carries an accuracy of 0.4% of full scale typically. Seven Star LLC supplies Hydac products in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.

Decoding the ETS 4148-H part number

The model code on the data sheet is ETS 4 1 4 8 – H – XXX – 000. The first two digits, 4 and 1, identify the ETS 4100 family. The next 4 selects the mechanical connection, G1/4 A to ISO 1179-2, and the 8 selects the electrical connection, an M12x1 5-pole connector supplied without the mating connector. The letter H is the output signal, HSI with automatic sensor detection. XXX is the probe length in millimetres, 006, 100, 250 or 350, and 000 is the standard modification number. A transmitter with a 100 mm probe is therefore ETS 4148-H-100-000. The mating connector is ordered as an accessory from the Hydac accessories brochure.

How HSI makes the sensor plug-and-play

The HYDAC Sensor Interface is a digital one-wire, half-duplex protocol. When the transmitter is plugged into an HMG instrument, the instrument reads the sensor type, the measured variable, the range and the unit, and sets the channel accordingly, so the technician does not enter scaling or select the sensor from a list. That reduces mistakes in the field and saves time on commissioning and troubleshooting. The sensor takes its supply from the instrument, and has built-in protection against reverse polarity, overvoltage and short circuit.

Probe length and installation choices

The 6 mm probe has the highest pressure rating at 600 bar, and the 4.5 mm diameter is suited to measuring in a test point or a small port. The 100, 250 and 350 mm probes have an 8 mm diameter and are rated 125 bar, so they are suited to tanks, pipes and reservoirs where the tip must reach into the medium. Mount the sensor with the G1/4 connection in a suitable port, tighten to about 20 Nm, and ensure the probe tip is in the flowing medium rather than near a wall. Temperature readings lag behind in still oil, with the response times listed above for the stated test, so allow settling time.

Where ETS 4148-H fits in a measuring setup

The ETS 4100-H is one part of a measuring kit: the portable data recorder, a pressure transmitter such as the HDA series and a flow transmitter, all with HSI recognition. The data sheet lists application fields in mechanical engineering, such as hydraulics, pneumatics, cooler units and compressors, and says that it is used where continuous, intelligent monitoring is needed. The HMG 2500 data recorder is the common partner; a ETS probe, pressure sensor and flow sensor measured together describe the heat balance of a hydraulic circuit or the power of a pump.

Selection and ordering checklist for ETS 4148-H

  • Probe length: 6, 100, 250 or 350 mm, and matching pressure at the point of measurement.
  • Fluid temperature range, and seal material if FKM does not suit the medium.
  • Compatible measuring instrument: HMG 5X0, HMG 2500, HMG 30X0 or HMG 4000.
  • Mating connector and cable from the accessories brochure.
  • Port thread: G1/4 A with the sealing washer, or adapter fittings.

Handling, calibration and care of the ETS 4148-H

The transmitter is a measuring instrument and should be treated like one: protect the probe from bending, do not hang it by the cable, and clean the thread seat before installation. Compare readings with a reference thermometer during commissioning if traceability is needed, since the specified accuracy is 0.4% of full scale typically, which on a 125°C span is about 0.5°C. Store the sensor in its case, and replace the FKM sealing washer when it is damaged. Because the device has no user-adjustable parts, a faulty sensor is replaced as a unit.

ETS 4148-H applications in Oman and the GCC

Service engineers at power stations, desalination plants and oil and gas facilities use portable HYDAC instruments to troubleshoot hydraulic power units, lube oil systems and coolers, where oil temperature is a key indicator of wear or cooler fouling. High ambient temperatures make oil temperature checks especially valuable, and the 125°C fluid temperature limit of the transmitter should be compared with the oil in service.

About brand

HYDAC is the German hydraulics group known for hydraulic filters, accumulators and electronic pressure and temperature sensors. It was founded in 1963 in Sulzbach, Saarland, by Werner Dieter and Otmar Schön. The name comes from "hydraulic accumulator", the first product it made under licence. It is still a family company headquartered in Sulzbach.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list HYDAC filters, filter elements, accumulators, pressure transmitters and switches, and supply them for hydraulic power units, turbines, compressors and mobile machines in Oman and the GCC.

Most hydraulic failures start with dirty or wet oil. That is why a system has filters at several points: a pressure filter in front of sensitive valves, a return filter that cleans what comes back to the tank, and a breather that stops dust and humidity entering as the oil level moves. The filter element's rating (for example 3, 10 or 25 µm) and its material decide what cleanliness class the oil reaches. On HYDAC sensors, the type code also sets the pressure range, the output and the connector. For example, HDA 4445-A-400-000 is a 4-20 mA transmitter for 0-400 bar.

Where HYDAC products are used

In Oman and the GCC, HYDAC filters, accumulators and sensors are used on turbine and compressor lube oil systems, hydraulic power units, offshore and marine hydraulics, cranes, presses, steel and aluminium plants, and construction and mobile machines.

Ordering HYDAC products: what we need

Send the full HYDAC type code or part number from the label. For filter elements, the element code on the end cap (for example 0160 D 010 BN4HC) gives the size, filter type, micron rating and material. For accumulators, send the volume, pressure rating and connection. For sensors, send the pressure range, output signal and connector.
