Delta DTN Multi-Loop Modular Temperature Controller
Description
Delta DTN economical multi-loop modular temperature controller
The Delta DTN is an economical multi-loop modular temperature controller with a thin housing. A DTN group is made up of a measurement host, measurement extension modules, I/O extension modules, and an Ethernet module or an EtherCAT module. A fully extended group has a host, seven measurement extension modules and eight I/O extension modules, with the communication module, for up to 64 control loops and section-compartmentalised heating. Seven Star LLC supplies the DTN in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.
Delta states that the DTN is 65 percent narrower than its DTE series, which saves horizontal mounting space and helps in crowded cabinets. Channels are isolated from each other to prevent leakage and noise during operation.
Module roles
A single measurement host or measurement extension module provides up to 8 control loops. Each can be paired with one I/O extension module for control, alarm and retransmission outputs. The module-level ordering codes are not published on the page, so confirm exact codes from your drawing.

How the DTN system communicates
Modules in a DTN group connect to each other and to the host through RS-485 for fast module connection. A communication module then links the group to a higher-level network. The Ethernet module supports Modbus TCP and EtherNet/IP and has dual ports, so devices can be daisy-chained to reduce switch and wiring needs. Its internal communication interface gathers data from all extension modules for efficient transmission.
The Ethernet module also has a gateway function, which lets a controller with a Modbus RS-485 interface join the same network. The EtherCAT module (DTN-ECAT) provides high-speed, real-time data transmission and a central data collection function that collects parameters from the DTN modules, reducing polling effort for the EtherCAT master.
DTN compared with DTM and DT3
Delta positions the DTN as the economical modular choice. The DTM, described on its own page, offers a different module set including extension cassettes and the RS-485 or Ethernet host. The DT3 is a single-loop instrument. Choose the DTN when cabinet width is limited, when EtherCAT or EtherNet/IP is required, or when cost per loop matters for a large number of zones.
| Series | Type | Loops per group |
|---|---|---|
| Series | Type | Loops per group |
| DT3 | Single-loop panel controller | 1 per unit |
| DTM | Modular multi-loop | Up to 64 |
| DTN | Thin modular multi-loop | Up to 64 |
DTN selection and ordering checklist
- Number of control loops and the number of measurement modules needed (8 loops each).
- Outputs: control, alarm and retransmission requirements, which set the I/O extension modules.
- Network: Ethernet (Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP) or EtherCAT, and the PLC or master used.
- Existing RS-485 Modbus devices that might use the gateway function.
- Cabinet width available, given the thin housing.
- Software: the DTNSoft configuration and management software for set-up.
- Sensor types and temperature ranges.
Installation, configuration and maintenance of the DTN
Mount modules side by side on the rail in the order planned, connect the RS-485 link, then add the communication module. Delta supplies DTNSoft configuration and management software and an operation manual for setting up the group. Keep sensor wiring apart from heater power, and clearly mark each loop at the terminals.
After wiring, scan the group, assign addresses, confirm every channel against a reference, then tune each loop. Retain a copy of the configuration file. During maintenance, modules can be exchanged individually, which is the main benefit of the modular design, so spares of measurement and I/O modules help shorten downtime.
DTN applications in Oman and the GCC
Multi-zone temperature control appears in plastics extrusion, packaging, heat-treatment ovens, drying lines and test rigs. In Oman and the GCC, installers value the narrow housing when retrofitting into crowded cabinets, and the network options when connecting to a PLC. Ventilated cabinets and good cable practice help with ambient heat and dust.
Planning a DTN network for a multi-zone machine
Count zones first and divide by eight to find the number of measurement modules, remembering that the host also provides loops. Then decide the output arrangement. Heating zones usually need a control output and an alarm, and some need a retransmission signal, so check how many I/O extension modules are needed against the limit of eight per group.
Choose the communication module from the controller platform. EtherNet/IP and Modbus TCP suit most PLC systems, while EtherCAT suits machines that already use an EtherCAT master and need deterministic updates. Keep the group under one cabinet where possible, document the module order, and store the DTNSoft configuration file with the machine records so that a replacement host can be reloaded quickly.

About brand
Delta Electronics is a Taiwanese maker of power and automation products, founded in April 1971 by Bruce Cheng with 15 employees in a small factory in Sinjhuang, Taipei County. Its first products were TV deflection coils and electronic components; it later became a leading maker of switching power supplies and added drives, PLCs and HMIs for industrial automation. Delta is headquartered in Neihu, Taipei, and listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
Seven Star LLC lists the Delta DVP04AD-S2 analog input module and the ESR-48/30D rectifier module, and sources Delta PLC modules and power parts for panel builders and maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC.

Delta PLC families and the DVP slim line
Delta's controller program runs from the DVP series through the modular AS series to the AH series. Inside the DVP series, the slim CPUs (among them DVP-SS2, SA2, SX2, SV2 and SE) take slim expansion modules on their right side. The DVP04AD-S2 is one of these: a four-channel analog input module for voltage or current signals, which the CPU reads with FROM and TO instructions.
